What is the circular foot control behind my left heel in my DK50SE Cab? There is an arrow pointing down and an odd icon I don't understand yet pictured just above this control and it pushes down and springs back up. Anyone know what this control is? Jim

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

What Murph said... probably. Have you read your Owner Manual front to back? If not, do so. And read, front to back, all other Owner Manuals for any implements that you have.

Once you've done that, re-read them again with a highlighter in hand.

Go 'slow and low' with your rig... and have fun.

Sounds like the differential lock as mentioned. Normally, one or the other rear wheels drive by itself due to the differential gears and the one driving will normally be the one with the least traction. Push that pedal down and both wheels will drive as if it was a solid axle. If one is spinning, do yourself a favor and let up on the forward or backwards pedal before pushing on the diff lock pedal. This will let it engage easier and the locking mechanism in the differential will thank you. As soon as you change forward or backwards direction, with no pressure on the pedal, the diff lock will release.

As others have said, the Differential lock for locking your two rear axles solidly together. As stated above engage it gently. Don't have one wheel spinning rapidly and stomp it and engage with a bang.

Also another method of preventing one rear wheel spinning is to reach down with your left hand unlock your split brakes by rotating the little locking bar that locks both brake pedals together, and then note which rear wheel is spinning and apply light brake pedal pressure to the pedal that controls the spinning wheel. This will slow down the spinning wheel, and thru the differential action of your rear differential, the other stationary wheel will now start to rotate. You have full control of the amounts of pressure applied, and there is no slam bang action going on here. With the Kioti having the brakes on the left and the Hydrostat "go pedal" on the right, this is a very convenient and effective strategy to mitigate wheel spin.

Thanks Murph and thanks for the welcome. How did you know I was new to here? I am brand new to Kioti and used at that so I have the Owners Manual on order from eBay I think. With all you experts out there I may not even need it. The book sure won't have your experience in it. Thanks again and more later....Jim

WoW...Invaluable info...your experience is going to keep me out of big trouble. I think I am going to enjoy my new (2009) Kioti very much with the kind of help you all are giving me. Like I said before, none of your experiences are in "the book" and those experiences are priceless. Thanks again and more later...Jim

He knew because you only have 5 posts listed.

As you say, the experiences are great here, and they are not in a book. Most any question, we can help, or try are best to answer. I've been here a year, and still learn something everyday. I think the learning curve for me might have been a little steeper without the guys here.

Trying to preempt another question: The circular knob by your right heel is the MLS valve, it controls the rate of 3PTH drop. Turn toward the rabbit, and the hitch comes down with a nice thud, turn toward the turtle, and it comes down more slowly. All the way to the turtle, and it doesn't come down at all. It's a common question here, and has puzzled even some experience people as to why the 3 point won't come down.
