Tractor Sizing How Much Can A Sub Compact Tractor lift?

... even with a 200 pound cage, 1000 pounds of tire fill and a 500 pound blade on the back, the back end was hovering. With this same ballast, I can lift the back end completely off the ground if I'm digging up a stump with the bucket.

Not to hijack this thread - but that is an interesting cage you have there gladehound. What prompted you to build that?
I'll bet there is an interesting safety-related story behind that build.

My BX2200 with the LA211 loader list breakout force at 950lbs @ bucket and 460lbs full height at pins.

Will have to rig up a test to see if it really can breakout 950lbs. Have tried to lift some large limestone rocks and it struggled. I doubt the rock was 950lbs but will measure it and estimate the weight.

Originally was built for my Kioti LB1914 and had it modified to fit the DS4510HS. Clear enough woods and some things will happen that make you think a ROPS is not enough. Before the cage, one tree landed on the ROPS in a somewhat planned way (didn't want the tree to come down on the tractor but positioned the tractor such that it would hit the ROPS if it did), was enough to make me think about putting a little more between me and the trees. Twice had dead trees lean towards me from the side when pulling down monkey vines and I stopped before they fell on me - would have fallen across the seat had I continued. Got tippy in the woods once and realized that if I rolled the ROPS would do nothing if I was next to a tree and the tree was in front of the ROPS, I'd get squished. Constantly was getting branches, pickers and vines in my face when in the woods.

So I designed a cage and went to a buddy who builds drag race cages for a living and ask him to build it.

Since having a cage on my tractors, I guess I don't take as much care as before. I've had 6 trees land on top of me. Honestly knew that all of them were going to land on me before hand but proceeded because once on top of the tractor, I can drive back to my wood pile and cut it up there. less lifting by hand

It has legitimately saved me from a number of widow maker branches that have come down while clearing woods (that sure makes a loud bang and scares the $%!* out of you if you didn't see it coming). I guess this is a good time to as any to report that the composite hood on the DS4510HS is much stronger than I would have guessed.

The cage also keeps the brush and branches out of my face. I'm so used to having it that I wouldn't enter the woods without it at this point. It's made of 2"x3"x1/4" structural tubing. The weakest part is the factory ROPS that it clamps to in the back.

Below is a picture of the same cage on my smaller tractor. I took this tree out of my front yard and didn't want it to hit the ground and make holes so I gradually lowered it onto the tractor and carried it between the cage and loader frame to my wood pile. I don't recommend that others try the things that I do. I appear crazy to some people but I'm actually very calculated.

I've been clearing my back 1.5 acres, and on several occasions had blackberry vines and dead branches fall on me. Definitely wish I had less exposure to the elements. I almost got speared in the throat by a branch that I had broken off with my loader, while ripping out blackberries. It made me think a little more about what I was doing...

Eventually I'd love to build a door-less cab with a lexan windshield and detachable wiper.

Funny you should mention that... if you look closely at the front of the cage in the picture of my DS4510HS carrying the log, you'll see six tabs already welded on to the front uprights. They are to bolt on a windshield. :thumbsup:

Here is my test. It really makes me doubt another members claim that he can lift 2,000 pounds with clamp on bucket forks using a LA524 loader. I was unable to lift this log using a LA524 loader with SSQA forks. My LA724 loader lifts the same log with the same set of forks without any trouble.

What tractor does a 524 loader fit? Who lifted 2k with one and clamp forks?

How much you figure that log weighs? Dimensions and.species?

The LA524 has very good breakout and bucket curl force for a loader with 1131 pound full height lift capacity. Breakout at the pin is listed at >2400 pounds and near 1900 pounds 500mm out. Sure, clamp on forks will put the load out more than 500mm. But it wouldn't have to be under rated by much, or pressure on the high side by much, to make the 2000 pound lift with clamp on forks. Still beyond the listed specs but may be possible.

There is a lot of variation in lift between same model loaders. It all depends on what pressure the relief valve opens. Slight variations in relief valve springs could make one loader stronger than another.

So who is it that lifted 2k?

I have a la463 which is the same tractor and same loader just not the curved booms. Same specs tho.

With my clamp on forks, about 1200 is all she is good for. The bucket edge is 500mm. So my 1.2k lift was out about 1000mm. With actual forks I can see 2k being alot.more likely.

I would assume the final verdict would if the tractor/loader combination can/or can't lift, move and dump the load.

Empirical observation at work. Few folks can look at a potential load and get it's real weight within a pounds.
