Good morning. For the first time this autumn I was filling hay racks in a strong wind. I had moved them a while ago and this was my chance to she how sheltered this new spot was. I got my answer to that when I lifted the lid and it came off slightly sideways, knocking me on the head. Fortunately no damage done and my head was fine too.

It was only after I had finished filling the racks and was walking across the next field that I realised everything in view was slightly fuzzy. Not concussion, just the way the world looks when I am not wearing glasses. Had they been knocked off my head ? I walked back to the racks, got down and starting searching on my hands and knees. Dog thought it was some new game that he hadn't quite worked out yet, so he kept barking at me to explain the rules. Nothing found.

Came back home, half hoping that I just hadn't put them on, but there weren't there either, so went back along with my wife and looked again, taking all the hay out of the rack. Nothing. Retraced everywhere I had been that morning. Still nothing. Have to assume they are gone for good - unless someone sees a sheep wearing spectacles.

47 degrees going up to a warmer 75 today, nice Fall day. Leaves and pine needles are on the agenda for this morning. Eric, sorry you lost your glasses. I have to have two pairs of sun glasses and two pairs of regulars, because I keep putting them down where I can't find them, and have to wear the "other pair" until I find the first one. And I usually do...thankfully, glasses are expensive.

coffee is brewing, did some ground beans this morning and it sure smells better in the kitchen.

Poured second cup of coffee. 48° with rain and wind this morning. Heading to 51° with wind and rain. Dog kept wanting to go out because of the rain and wind. Need more sleep. Should be a interesting day. Last Friday a quick storm came thru about 7am. 8 hours later power came back on. Today DTE has called all line works in because of the high winds predicted. Hope it turns out to be a non issue. Got snowplow on yesterday. Snow tomorrow should not be a issue because I am prepared.
Eric, hope you find your glasses. Finding my glasses around here is a ongoing task.
Good Morning All.

41 this morning high of 61 later with wind adviserary expecting wind gusts of 45MPH. Several dry days here before next big rain event on Tuesday. We have had so much rain I've lost count.

Worried now that our winter will see lots of ice storms not good not good at all.

Eric hopefully one of your sheep enjoys the use of your glasses as much as you have

Drew did you find the boat of your dreams? Spent last weekend looking at boats still looking I'm afraid

52 out this AM, maybe rain today, maybe not. Sure do not need the water.

The guys unstuck a tractor in the back yesterday. The fields in the back are still soaked. Now I have various equipment laying around in various places. And some round bales we cannot get to. I always like to be tidy before winter sets in, guess just not this year. Time to find another lease arrangement I guess.

No joy on Mr. Beaver. They must be coming a long way just to feed. Cannot trap or shoot what is not on my property, so that's that.

Have a great day all, be safe!

45 going to 70 with a chance of rain around noon. Beautiful red sky right now.

Still need the leaves and grass to dry out enough to mow/mulch. Everything is still pretty wet although no rain yesterday. It's that time of year where it takes days to dry off after a big rain.

Also have a little caulking planned.

I put a brand new chimney in at the shop 10 years ago, never been cleaned. I build a hot fire, leave the fan powered air intake on high. You can tell when the chimney catches, you can hear and feel it. As soon as it starts, I shut the fan off and shut the intake damper off and it only takes a few seconds to die out. A few minutes later, I set the intake where I need it rub and go about my business.

I wouldn't try this with a creosote caked flue and for sure not with a Ben Franklin or other non air tight unit. Likewise, your chimney needs to be in excellent shape, and that includes your black stovepipe. Don't go off and start a project while waiting for it to catch.

I believe the modern EPA stoves are no longer air tight: Part of what makes them acceptable to the EPA is that they can't be damped down far enough to smolder and create creosote buildup. That being the case, it's probably not safe to purposely light a chimney fire in one of those stoves, as there would be no convenient way to starve it for air and put it out.
