5As I was heading out of the driveway to do that, I ran into a young man riding a Polaris 330 four-wheeler coming in the other way. I stopped and motioned to him and explained that although the property wasn't posted on this side, if he was coming in the opposite direction, it is marked with "No Trespassing" signs ... and I'd prefer that he didn't ride here as I'd had some problems with stuff coming up missing.

After a little more conversation he mentioned that he had just had three people screaming at him, apparently for crossing their property. Seemed like a nice young fellow, kinda quiet and reserved. Being the old softie that I am, I relented and told him it would be ok for him to ride on our property.

As I pulled away he was cranking his machine over ... didn't seem like it wanted to start.

When I got back from the attorney's, he had only made it about 150' to the other side of the shop. We tried some starting fluid but my can was almost empty ... nada ... So I ran down to the local gas station and picked up another can ... still nada ... We pulled the plug and checked for spark ... nada ... Took plug inside shop and checked it for spark with the Echo blower ... good ... So it appears that there was no juice getting fed to the plug from the coil/ignition. Told him we'd put it inside the shed overnight until he could get someone to tow him home so no one would rip it off.

He's a potential candidate for an extra set of hands - seems handy, knows his way around internal combustion engines, likes to hunt, sophomore at the local HS.

Trespassing can be a hard and even painful lesson to learn, RS, especially for young folks that have never had property of their own. Hopefully he got the message. Getting that quad going again might be another lesson, an expensive one if the ignition module is the problem. If that's the case your young explorer is sure gonna need that job you offer him!

I'm am not touching anything else today. Everything I touch breaks. I would go into detail about the club car golf cart but it's a long story. It basically started to fall apart and bolts breaking as I was trying to find the problem. When the motor fell and broke that was the final straw (batteries and tires were needing replacing also and maybe the controller) so I loaded it up and sold it for parts. And then to make matters worse the trailer lights did not work and the truck had a flat.

. . .And tomorrow is Friday the 13th

Some days it just doesn't pay to even get out of bed! I usually have my worst luck on the 12th and 14th, with the 13th usually turning out OK for some reason. Not that I'm superstitious or anything...

Good morning! A shivering 56˚.

That's the same way I felt two weeks ago when our temps first dropped. I got over it pretty quick, and now they're dropping regularly down into the low 40s and high 30s. Almost like somebody threw a switch!

I have to decide between another Club Car 48v and a Yamaha 48v. My last Club Car was a 1996. (19 years was a good run) If I buy the Giddings Yamaha it would be less than the Crags list Yamaha (about 800 more than the Club Car.) I need to find out the difference between the two. Giddings was really pushing their gas Yahama golf carts as the best, but they are about a thousand more.

I can tell from your earlier posts that you really like the peace and quiet of an electric, Don. After driving a Diesel Kubota for the last five years, I can't say I blame you. I wouldn't want another finicky gas engine to deal with, either, but if you have to go with something that takes fuel, Diesel is a good alternative. Nothing to tune up, just filters and fluid to change. No gas to go bad, but the noise sure takes some getting used to.

Need to move a tractor today. Since mine isn't coming. Went back to dealer Wednesday and heard same song but different dance about why they've missed 4 delivery dates. Tractor still was at factory. They couldn't go get it. Got my deposit back and told them to call when it was sitting on lot. Manager said he wasn't going to get it if it wasn't sold. So I guess I'm back to looking for a tractor.

If that dealer is giving you trouble before your tractor is even delivered, just think what will happen when the first problem shows up with the tractor itself! Better to learn now they're jerks than later when you really need something important. Go find a dealer that knows how to deliver good customer service along with a new tractor and don't bother looking back...

Don, as you have found out, even electric carts have problems. I would go Yamaha gas myself if they check out to not be problematic. It is nice not having discharged anxiety.

Good 50F @ 9:00AM. Mainly sunny. High 64F. Winds light and variable.

Called the Anderson window factory back yesterday to ask about a warranty on the leaking window at step dad's place, and learned that the dealer back in Ohio isn't authorized to do repair work. I don't know why the first person I spoke with at Anderson told me to use that dealer; more bad customer service? Anyway, have a new person going to look at it maybe next week. Good thing, too, as it was clear that the first repair person had never tackled something as large before, and I'd rather he get his on the job training on somebody else's window.

Fiddled with the alarm system, taking the smoke detector apart and blowing out the sensor with compressed air. Also changed some settings in the controller to widen the window in which it looks for a supervisory signal from the sensor. Also talked to ADT about the problem, and learned that any replacement of the sensor would be covered under a service warranty with only a $25 service call fee.

Ran errands in town the rest of the afternoon, getting home after dark. Costco chicken for dinner while I consoled the new motorcycle club president on the phone. It seems the new Board of Directors isn't working well together, with some always having to get their own way. I think he just needed a sympathetic ear. While wandering around the kitchen though that annoying chirp caught my attention. It seemed to be coming from the pantry, but I couldn't recall anything electrical in there. But after the call I started going through the cabinets one by one, finally running across one full of odds'n'ends from the house. Candles, water filters, floor plans, binders of instructions and guarantees for various appliances and accessories, and bits of this and parts of that. Under the rubble I found an old smoke detector I'd removed when it was replaced with the new alarm system, and inside it I found a nearly dead battery. And as I held the darn thing in my hand it chirped at me! It only took moments to remove the battery, and I think it might have been the highlight of the day. I heard narry a beep all last night as a result, from either it or the rest of the alarm system, so hopefully, at least for now, the electronic gremlins have been vanquished and things'll settle back down to normal around here.

TGIF gentlemen!

Overcast, windy, and 42F @ 12:00 ...

Caught the local revised forecast this morning ... this coming week has gone from colder and nasty to sunny with highs in the low to mid 60's ... sounds crazy to me ... but I'll sure take it :D

If it really pans out I have a decent shot on actually getting a whole bunch of outside work done that I still need to do.

P. R. came over yesterday and I got the pieces to retain the 26 gallon vessel welded on to the burner/heater stand, along with some pieces of plate with nuts welded for leveling feet. And he brought me a new cap for the compressor :D

No pics, still trying to get the desktop to see my iPhone ... apparently have a bad USB port on The Woman's 'puter ...

Found a LFS yesterday afternoon that could source a top frame for the 55 at a reasonable cost and in a timely manner ... $20, pay for it by close of business Saturday, and she'll have it delivered by next Wednesday or Thursday with her weekly order. Most of the ones I called either didn't have a source, or mebbe just weren't interested.

So I ran over and paid last evening before they closed. Small place, in downtown Barberton, run by a local couple ... definitely not as glitzy as the chain stores but it had a real homey feel and a pretty extensive stock of parts for old filters, not just the new whizz-bang stuff and some nice fish too, with a good amount of Africans ... including a sharp looking breeding pair of Julidiochromis transcriptus for $40 ...

These Julies had several broods of various ages in the tank, with the older ones helping to guard and take care of the younger ones. The eggs and fry were tiny compared to my Green Terrors ... about the size of a head of a pin or less. They are interesting fish - the young from previous broods will actually help in the rearing of the new fry, until they get near maturity and the parents run them off.

Asked one of the owners whether she buys any fish locally from breeders and if so what does she need that is hard to source. She said, for one, Angels ...says she won't buy them commercially at all, due to continual problems ... and the local breeder she had been sourcing them from had gotten out of the breeding biz. She had some very nice looking specimens tho' ...

Decided I'm going to take my undergravel filter plates for the 55 and construct a reverse-flow UGF, using the filtered output of one of the Magnums (probably the 330) to feed the UGF plates. Found a source in Columbus, OH for black PVC pipe and fittings that is cheap and doesn't mind small orders. I'm missing the filter sleeve for the one Magnum carbon canister I have, so I'll probably pick up some Porfet filter foam from Swiss Tropicals and roll my own. Might have things up and running by next weekend.

P. R. and I are going to head over to the rental place here in a bit (sometime after 14:00) to pick up the compressor to blow out the lines on the boilers. Probably work on that either tomorrow or Sunday.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

Kyle it did stay outside just under a carport for almost 15 years so corrosion does sink in after a while.
With a meter display that shows the charge left there is no anxiety. I do enjoy the quiet so it will have to be a lot to sway me to go motor.
Drew thanks for the info on your Club Car. Mine will have to be raised because I don't mow much and it makes it harder for the snakes to hitch a ride when going through waist high vegetation. Drew did you compare the Yamaha and Club Car electric models when you were in the market?

I fully understand. Lowering the air in the ATV tires on mine to where all you could hear were small sticks cracking, leaves crackling and the occasional acorn popping from the electric cart was nice when I wasn't fighting off the corrosion or acid overspill eating away my frame. I just think for us, in the long run, a dependable gas engine is cheaper. (until my FIL's gator took a crap on us and needs a new $300 ignition box). It is a 2002 with almost 500 hours. The tires are dilapidated too.

Back when we were feeding the catfish in the pond, even with an electric cart, the catfish would start stirring up the water when we were still over 200 feet from the water. How did those catfish know that??? Could their whiskers detect the anomalies of the Gauss lines in the earth from the cart??? Eery I tell ya.

I have hundreds of things I could/should be doing today, just testing out the TMA theory and trying to decide if I want to do any of them...

rs, the only latin I know is motorolus interruptus (when my cell phone cuts out on me). I have to admit my wifey was wishing the tank would go, and was waiting for the lonesome Pleco to pass....but he didn't. Even my wife is surreptitiously fond of the angels.

Make sure you duck and cover when you blast those lines out so you'z don't get blasted with the muck.

Eric, I'm still watching out for a hitchhiking sheep wearing glasses. If I pick him up and he asks to go to some planet, I'm putting him back out on the roadside.

Farmer, I'd be glad as heck they handed me my own check back.
