50.6F and clear/sunny @ 12:00 ...
There are a pair of little paws reaching under the door of the room I'm in, accompanied by much pitiful-sounding mewing ...
Got all the PVC plumbing finished up yesterday for the RF UGF, other than filing out some excess glue that might reduce/restrict the flow.
Did a pretty thorough wash down of the glass on the 55g ... actually looks pretty good, although I know it's scratched in spots (rocks)
Used the razor blade, along with toothpaste/baking soda with a ScotchBrite pad to try and remove more of the mineral deposits around the top where the frame goes. Would have done more of that last night, but it looks like the starter for the fluorescent hood light has failed on me ... will run to Home Depot here in a little bit to pick one up after I get my shower.
Got ahold of North Hill Glass and Mirror and got a quote on a piece of glass cut, 3/8" x 2" x 11 1/2" for the top cross brace: $16 ... which includes having the edges ground so they aren't sharp. Be ready either this Friday or Monday.
I also think I have come up with a good way to secure the backdrop in the tank without having to silicone it to anything. I have a bunch of PVC pipe hangers - J-hooks - which were bought at some point or another for some project that never got done. Plan to embed a number of those into the backdrop with the hooks pointing up ... and then silicone some short sections of PVC pipe onto the back glass for them to hook into. If the backdrop has positive buoyancy, the worst that should happen is that it will captured all the better.
This avoids having to silicone it to the filter plates, blocking some portion of them off, and should make everything much easier to remove ... if I ever need to strip the tank down.
Plan to actually start siliconing the backdrop together later today, after I get done running around and doing some outside chores.
