Homestead Property Tax Credit...what a ripoff

My former in-laws are in their 80's and they still pay for schools although their kids have been out of the system since 1970. LET THOSE WHOSE KIDS USE THE SCHOOLS PAY A BIGGER SHARE.
Do you propose that we get rid of free public schools?
My kids never went to public school but I paid the tax for the the public schools
Ther are retired tbn members who have grandkids living at their house, how does their schooling get paid for.
Quit being a greedy geezer , move to a lower tax state or region if you do not like the taxes to support the items in your region or Get enough people to vote against all of the items that are not needed

Retiredguy, your starting to sound bitter. You worked for 40 years, no kids, and now SS is pretty much all you have. What happenned to planning and saving for retirement. As far as supporting schools, with a public school system everyone needs to help support them. Thats what makes it public.

Maybe it is time to downsize like you posted in the other thread. It might be better financially.

lots of people don't use all the public things that their taxes pay for, that's the way it is.

retiredguy sounds a lot like someone else that used to hang out here from Michigan.

Too many people having kids that they have no intent on ever paying for and stay on welfare. I predicted this outcome many years ago when I finally realized that "poor" people were having an alarming number of kids on welfare. Now too few working people to foot the bill, so the taxes go up and up. More businesses/retired people/real working people having to pay foot the tax bill in society. It will only get worse. The takers have overcome the givers...that's the way I see it. I figured this out when I was in collage back in 1980. I worked in the school library to make a little eating money and another girl worked there. I had to work weekends/nights and this girl did not have too. I asked why (just curious) and found out she was on some kind of program because her "fambily" was "poor". What did this have to do with going to collage? No one paid for me, I spent four years in the Navy to pay for my collage and they in return gave me four years of tuition. Fair trade. Why in the blankety blank would someone get to go to collage for free just because their "fambily" is poor? WTH, I was poor too and worked about 35 hours a week so I could eat. I knew then that there was no way statistically that this freebie society could continue on and on and.....somebody has to pay the school taxes and other taxes. I know that there are really poor people that got there through no fault of their own, got laid off/factory closed/job went away and I am glad to help these. But for someone to purposely be "poor" to get all the goodies is just wrong. It's just plain to me...not enough givers and too many takers. Sorry if I am ranting and not to get political but the truth is the truth. Don't even get me started on the illegals playing the system!

A what point should you not have to pay for other peoples kids. ---I have none but have been paying very high school property taxes for ever. --- Seems like they should cut that off when you retire at least.
WI, Has very high property taxes.. It is so bad that now that I am retired I have though about moving just to
save a few bucks.(no a lot) in retirement.---Don't seem right??
