Homestead Property Tax Credit...what a ripoff

Property taxes are a ripoff in many ways.
Property is not the beneficiary/user of the tax dollars, people are.
Why should a property valued at $300K and only 2 residents pay twice the taxes of a property valued at $150K with 4 residents. Simple logic says the 4 residents will consume more taxpayer assets than the 2 residents.

Used to be only property owners could vote, since they were the taxpayers. Then the "progressives" spread the vote to everyone (over the years) People figured out they could vote for people that gave them stuff from the gov't. So now we have folks trying to get to America where "everything is free".

I don't mind paying a fair school tax, but what gets me is way back when the states were trying so hard to get the lottery voted in it was for our schools. Boy everyone though that was the nuts, sure they get some but not what they should be, just enough so it can be said we are giving it to the schools. Just a little awhile ago on the news Illinois winners that won over $600.00 had to take IOU's. Illinois had to wait until the new budget, that money should of never been in the state budget......

The one that gets my goat is the airport tax. If they can't make in the world close the D--- thing down.

Do away with property and school taxes and have only a consumption tax/and or a flat tax, based on income percentage, for everyone. School and property taxes guarantee that you will never truly own your home.

As I wandered thru life.. for MANY years... I have noticed that many things are not ' fair '. Also, though many folks wish to make things ' more fair ', the majority of the time their well meaning efforts only seem to screw things up more. At least, for someone else. This goes for taxes, and for sticking our noses into other countries business... I would run my mouth more, but political posts are banned on this site... AND, it is close to Christmas. Going to be a fine day outside today.

Well, here in WA I don't have to worry about Homestead Property Tax Credit - - because we do not have such a thing. We do have a Senior Citizen tax "reduction" program. I did all the paperwork for it and was approved about eight years ago. The first year was fantastic - my property taxes were reduced about 1/3. Then the County Assessors reassessed my property and the taxes went UP about 1/3 over the normal amount.

My house & outbuildings sit on 80 acres and were appraised that way. The Assessors arbitrarily split my house & outbuilding off onto a 5 acre parcel. Seems this method made my house & outbuildings much more valuable - i.e. - my tax base increased, my taxes went up. After the second year of increased taxes on this Senior Citizen Tax "reduction" program I called them and got off the "reduction" program. My taxes dropped by 1/3 and have remained that way ever since.

My annual property tax is a little more than 3X what my father paid for the property in 1947.

However, I do not object to these taxes because the only way we will ever continue to survive is by having a more educated electorate. Like it or not about 75-80% of my property tax goes to education.

I don't call it a tax anymore. I call it paying Ransom. And I don't mind paying my share. Whats crazy is the huge Football stadiums their building and telling us"Its for the children".

Your school property taxes are high because the Fiefs running their fiefdoms have no problem spending, and largely wasting your money on Taj Mahal buildings and sports arenas for kids to play while the basics of education are neglected or non existent.

Education hasn't been the focus for a long time. Taking your money and parental rights has been though. The free **** army and the sheep keep accepting this so it grows and continues.

For the record, my kids (4) are homeschooled.
