You are correct, retirees who are tired of toe to toe combat with Jack Frost head south. However we do notice quite a few Southerners who choose to come north on vacation in the summer. Wonder why?
Yeah, but they leave and go home!

But Southerners are welcomed if they do want to stay. Bottom line is that Northerners just don't have a bone to pick with Southerners. It's a one way grudge match!!

I think I met that snowplow driver (or at least his twin brother) when we were at my mother in laws just outside of Pittsburgh

That's about right. You also don't hear much of a southerner saying, "Hey, just two more years until I can retire. Can you guys up north tell me a good place in maybe Illinois, New York, or Minnesota?"

I honestly think that has more to do with the xenophobia than anything else. Part of the xenophobia is related to the feeling that the rest of the country looks down on Southerners.

Pretty much tells the story of last winter around here. Except, the snowplow drivers never wave or smile and they always push snow into your just plowed driveway.

Your doin it wrong.... My dad used to leave a sixpack on the tailgate of the pickup. If the plow driver wanted it, he had to drop the wing and clear the end of the driveway first....:drink:

Fantastic! I'll try to remember that. We haven't seen a snowflake yet and today was nearly 60 degrees so it may be a while.

Do you think it might have something to do with the less oppressive heat and the good fishing?

This is just my opinion, but I love the north, love snow, love frost on the ground, love the leaves turning. Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer--- in that order. Guess there is NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

Way back before I could afford a tractor, I would stop the plow driver at the first of the season and confirm that he is THE only driver to plow my street. IF he was then I told him that there would be a bottle of whiskey for him at Christmas and another one at New Years if he did NOT fill in my driveway. It worked famously for two winters. I moved after that.
