I would rather my child go to school in Russellville Arkansas than any school in any city on the east coast and he would be safer, better educated and more well mannered.

My opinion, fwiw.

Definitely agree with the well mannered part! Nicest group of kids I have ever met! Hardest working too. We are so impressed with this area! Like stepping back 30 years in time before the world lost its mind...

We feel the same way here in SW Virginia. Mountain folks are good as the day is long. Hard working, honest, and friendly. Heck, we even have three moonshining brothers who do great work on our home, even though I can hardly understand a word they say...

Don't know about education in other areas of the country..Here,,,,Education varies greatly from school district to school district..I sent mine to private school ,and can tell the difference from public to private education ... 1 son is a paramedic with a fire dept.. the other is in health care management, working at a local hospital..I guess it's $$ well spent.. Had they stayed in the public school system.. They both would most likely be working at the local convenience store ! LOL

I have lived up north most of my life other than military moves. I also live in the country. At age 63, I do remember the good old days and miss many things from back then. It was pretty easy to find a job, live on a relatively small salary, own a house, take vacations, taxes were lower and spent wiser. Now, it costs $35,000 just to rent a small apartment and drive a car, and everything is taxed.

The south still has a good way about it. Manners, slower, better pace, price of living is generally lower, and people seem to be friendlier. I am not bashing the north because I love it here in Maine, just some observations.

And oh, we sure do a lousy job of educating our kids. Not blaming teachers either but time away for curriculum development? Kids can't do basic arithmetic anymore.
