I just picked up a tractor a few months ago and I plan to use it to move snow, but was a little concerned about tearing up the gravel area in the parking area off the driveway . I figured I'd make something along the lines of the skids on a snowblower and mount them to the bucket. I first thought about welding something on the side that would be adjustable and removable but decided on something simpler that would slide onto the bucket instead. I figured keeping the cutting edge up a 1/4" should work fine. I guess we'll see once the white stuff starts falling!

Here's what I came up with...

It's 1/4" plate 6" wide by 8" long. I used my press to put the bends in the plate. 7/8" bolt to secure it to the bucket.

Check out edge tamers. Same idea and these. I just bought a pair of 3 inch wide ones for my 66 inch kubota bucket. Cost me $102 delivered to my door for the pair.

Must have been high shipping costs. Do you bolt those little round cans on the bottom, like skids, or on the sides, like wheels?

:D

Just checked them out and looks like the same "Ski" concept I have. They look like a quality product. Only issue I see with them is I have an edge blade bolted on my bucket so they wouldn't fit. I was wondering if the 6" I made would be wide enough...seem so as the Tamers are a lot narrower and appear to work fine in the videos.

Pepsiboy...I made these with some scraps I had hanging around. Probably better off just buying the Edge Tamers which look like they were designed to fit a standard bucket.

Nice build.

Is your driveway paved or gravel??

If paved, your design will work fine.

If gravel, you don't have enough clearance between your bucket edge and the ground. You'll scrape off all your gravel. On a gravel drive you need at least 2" of clearance and that will only work if the driveway is very, very level and smooth. If it has a crown in the center you need even more clearance.

Again, nice build!!!

half the fun of plowing a gravel drive is putting the stone back in the spring .

BigBoyToys,

I just asked, because we are on a VERY fixed income and I do not have the equipment to bend iron. I'll check out the Edge Tamers. Thanks.
