Don't forget FEMA......."Brownie.....you're doing a heck of a job!"

Come on JB, be fair. At that time at least, FEMA was not intended to be the first responder. It's role was training, coordination and dispensation of grant money, among other things. The first response was supposed to be the state and local authorities...you recall what a sterling job they did in that regard. FEMA and "Brownie" ended up getting the blame for their disastrous performance. Wonder what went with all that grant money?

Amazing how many alligators have turned up lately. I spent a lot of time on the water in North Texas and Oklahoma over the years and never ran into any or was concerned about it. Especially strange as those lakes can get quite a bit of ice around the edges during a cold spell.

I personally have never seen one. I know they are all around me and the creek that is one of my property lines feeds into the Sabine River, which is full of them. There is a huge nature area in Mineola right on the Sabine where people go to take pictures of them. Just like the beavers found my pond, I think it's just a matter of time until an alligator works his way up the creeks and into my pond.

I'm also amazed how they make it through winter. Hibernation must be the secret. I've seen two inches of ice on my ponds, and we've gone an entire week with temps never getting into the 30's. Coldest I've seen here is 14 degrees.

Since gators where protected their population has rebounded greatly. A gator was not something often seen when I was growing up in Florida. Now, they are all over the place down there.

The alligators are Homeland Security's answer to the migrant problem......cheaper than building a wall.

My dad plays golf in Englewood Florida, every week. They sometimes play around Goliath, a large gator who sometimes comes out on the course. There are pics of him on the web eating a large turtle, apparently he can crack the shell !
