It's a long journey, isn't it

OOOOHHHH MY ......

I've never done this before - now I know why. It is MUCH easier to just go out and buy a place. One should not go into this without being prepared for Stress, Frustration, Money Worries and LOTS of driving to search for everything from shingles to doorknobs.

Even more fun when you are the one physically doing most of the construction work.

Yes - but we didn't want to live in a 2x4 with some nails bent over in it. :)

Congratulations on getting the roof on. That's a huge step!!!!

How are you venting the roof? It might just be my computer, but it doesn't look like you have a ridge vent.

What are you using for your fascia?

No ridge vent. Had one - didn't really care for it - not many seem to recommend them any longer. We have about a dozen low-profile passive vents, and the soffit is also vented.

The fascia is rough cedar but we used fir for the soffit. We're really tired of trying to clean spider webs off rough wood :)

Ridge vent is highly recommended. Soffit vents dont work if there is no ridge vent.

News to me, first I've heard of this. I just had a ridge vent put on my current house. Any references I can read up on? Everything I heard was to use a ridge vent. I had one on my last house for ~20 years and it did well.

I didn't like mine - mostly for aesthetic reasons. "Some" have been known to take in rain.

Perhaps I should better define "not many" in my prior post ... I had 2 roofers quote my project, spoke to a 3rd. NONE of them suggested a ridge vent, although I have plenty of roof-line. They said they "could" or "would" install a ridge vent if I preferred. Since I didn't want one, I didn't think to inquire any further.
