WTB Screw Type Log Splitter or Cone

I have a bark buster 3-point splitter and I wouldn't try what you are going to do with it. Several years ago, I broke the (cast aluminum?) cone on mine trying to split a hard maple log. I had to find a replacement (EBAY) for more than I paid for the splitter when I bought it used, but for the price of a hydraulic powered one, I just couldn't stand to toss it out. Don't know about "Stickler" cones, they look like steel, so they might stand up better splitting full stumps.

What are you going to do if the cone gets stuck? The PTO doesn't have reverse.

I think you guys are missing the point. With this device I can back into the stumps and split them without getting off my tractor. Then I can put my digging spike on and dig out the pieces. If it all works I don't have to perform any manual labor to speak of.

Yep that and a hydro motor and I would be ready to bust some stumps. With hydro I could back it out. Ed

I think you will be disappointed with the results. Had one of the screw on types that went right on the PTO on a ford 8n. Backed into a 2.5 ft log stood on end. Screwed right into it and then the log slipped and started spinning beating the lift arms to death. Tractor was hopping showing air under the rear tires. Do not believe you will split anything. Screw does just that -screws into the wood. Get a video for you tube fame.

I have one of the atom splitters, same as the one shown but much pricier now and love it.

It works well for me splitting whole logs. I just bore into one of the ends of the log, lift it to the right height, buck off firewood lengths, either right before or right after I get to the auger. I roll the log a quarter turn and split it again, now I am bucking four way split wood, it's really quick n ez.
