What is the Easiest way to move 330 yards of pit run gravel?

When we went out west I saw plenty of dump trucks pulling dump trailers, but I have never seen a single one here in TN.

They need more room to turn, and TN is a smaller state.

I think pulling it and more importantly stopping it on our less than flat ground is the bigger problem. It could be more strict regulations on weight.

Can do a lot with little tractors.

Scooping and spreading out gravel is a cake walk compared to digging, clearing, and scraping hard dirt.

I have found that it takes about an hour to spread a dumped pile of gravel, provided you dont have to travel too far. IE: if speading it 2-3" thick one load, working out from the pile, you dont have to go too far. And get a good idea of, say, covering 100' each side of the pile. By the time the next load shows up, you have him dump 100' beyone where you left off if possible.

I get 25 tons dumped at a time. Or about 34-35 yards.

With a smaller tractor, the #1's and #2's I use for base, (softball sized chunks of limestone), are slightly more difficult to scoop and spread. But the small stuff is like scooping sand:thumbsup:

Unless I messed up the math, 330 cubic yards works out to 445 tons or over 20 loads at 20 tons each. That would be a lot of material to handle.
What is the B's bucket volume? 1/2 yard?
660 trips? Time.

Pronanbly 1/3 yd at best. That's about what I can do with a heaping load in my 5' bucket on my L.

4570Man, I hear you on not flat. The Trans Canada Highway from my place north to Thunder Bay is continuous 6 to 12% hills. It's like a roller coaster. It's not nice on the fuel bill.

I can't remember how long it all took me. I dumped by my shed in my turn around area. Then surfaced the first hill in my back yard. That took a bunch. Then I would spend 6 hours or so hauling a bunch up to the next level. Then build more road. Then haul a bunch again to one landing and keep transferring it up further. It was really hot here this summer, so most of it was done from 5 or 6 pm and I'd work until 1am or so when it was cool just to be easier on the tractor.

That's how I relax. I like to play with the tractor. Helps me forget how horrible the trucking industry has become.

No way. My LA724 loader might move 1/2 yard at a time. It might do a little better with a big heaping load. The L3800 which has a LA524 loader can't make a full height lift using the LA724 bucket full of dirt. Edit Kubota says my bucket holds 13 cubic feet and the BX25 holds 4.9 cubic feet.

Ya, it's nowhere near a half yard. I can't remember how many cubic feet it says, but it's only 51" wide.

Typically 7 Cu Ft on a 54" bucket so maybe 6-7 on the 51" or 1/4 yard.
