Motor off was the key to it moving right? With out hydro pressure...

I have experienced the same problem, but mine rolls much slower. Mine rolled down a hill one night and tore the end off my good Yellowjacket cord I had the block heater plugged up with. It rolled about 10 feet over night. Of course the parking brake wasn't set which would have prevented the problem.

Yes, hydros will roll down hill after a while when the pressure bleeds off. This is with engine off or on. It takes some time for them to start to roll. Always set the brake if you are on a slope, and lowering the bucket and your rear implement is also a good idea. You rarely use the brakes on a hydro machine as the instant you take your foot off of the "go" pedal the tractor comes to a stop. If you are on flat ground, or nearly flat, the tractor will stay there for ever. If you are on a slope then eventually a slow roll will start as the pressure bleeds off. You can either push on the brake pedal or give the hydro a little opposite pedal to hold position over time. Gear tractors can roll off too. If the slope is severe enough and the parking brake not set, the engine can turn over being driven back thru the drive train and the tractor can roll off downhill. You can confirm that tidbit of wisdom with your own tractor.:D Of course with diesels having a high compression ratio, the slope needs to be fairly steep, but don't think it can't happen.

Unlike gear or shuttle, HST tractors come to a stop almost immediately after taking your foot off the go pedal. The tractor is pretty stable and doesn't generally move although some creep can occur. That's why I always drop my loader to the ground as that provides enough resistance that all motion stops. Obviously on a hill there would be other considerations but on generally flat ground I often don't bother with the parking brake if I am going to be in the vicinity.

What you don't tell new people (because of some inherent danger) is you can get off and when you are hooking up your 3pt implement if you didn't quite get far enough back that the telescoping lower links can reach the implement pins you can use your hand to press the reverse pedal a bit to move the tractor backwards. You don't mention that because of the inherent possibility the "newby" will push on the wrong pedal and run over his dang foot and maybe even smashing himself to the ground if he panics and keeps mashing on the pedal. But like I said you would not mention such "features" to a newby.:D You would also not mention that if you were behind the tractor and operated the remote rear 3p control and happened to lower it with your foot under the implement and dropped said implement on your foot. Well you get the picture. I have not actually done that, but it is a possibility. Any time you work with several thousand pounds of machinery and hydraulics, something bad could happen if you are stupid.

Been there and done that. Actually, it is almost impossible for me to mount my Woods BH without moving the tractor back a half inch or less at a time to hit the 4 pt mount. My arms are long enough that I can put my fingers on the pedals while peeking over the rear wheel to see how close the two halves of the mount are. No question it is dangerous but I just have never been able to do the job sitting in the seat. Mounting 3PT implements is less of an issue because of the Kioti telescoping mount but I still need to adjust the hydraulic topping link which happens while I am standing next to the rear wheel.

Of course I have managed to drop a boxblade on my foot while reaching for something behind the tractor. Unfortunately the tractor was off so accidentally hitting the rear 3PT control lever resulted in a one way gravity assisted trip. My wife was around so she handed me a crowbar to lever the darn thing off my toes (nope, wasn't wearing steel toed shoes...boat shoes...moron:(). Since then I 1) always drop 3PT implement before getting out of the seat when shutting off the tractor and b) I painted the darn rear 3PT control lever with orange stripes so it is visually striking. c) built a bigger tool box so it now contains a few leverage devices. Could have been a much worse outcome as my wife is almost never around when I am working with the tractor.

I have used this feature. What you didn't tell the newbies is UNLESS YOU DISABLE THE SAFETY FEATURES IT WON'T WORK. Also another plus for a treadle pedal. No hitting the wrong one.

I don't know about other tractors but my 2007 Kioti DK40se doesn't have a seat safety switch. Never touched anything and it has always operated even when off the seat.
