Way back when  Sure makes me feel old. :D
The big ranches had Indoor plumbing & wells or other water supplies. Some had electricity and / or generators.

We mostly hauled water depending pm where we were it came from someone's well, a stream or a spring. Few places until we moved to Tombstone after the war had running water, a well or even a stream.
Vaguely I remember moving the out house on to a new hole. Wnen we moved to town we even moved the out house as well.

Water was hauled in a big galvanized barrel, lot heaver than an oil drum. Other barrel's & milk cans.

At about 4 I learned to chop wood. Mom laughed at me and said I chopped left handed.

At the property in Fry ( Now Serra Vista. It was leased.) There where 3 houses & a sheep herders tent. Ours, Granddads, aunt Leta's & an old mans tent. A few hundred yards from the houses were the corrals, horse trough & dog houses. Don't know where that water came from, but we didn't drink it.

She tried to drowned me.
Feeding the hounds 1 day, I found a "Horned Toad to play with. It squirted me right in the with a blood like liquid. Dore's Coffee grabbed me by the seat of the pants & back of the neck & stuck my head in the horse trough. About the time I thought I was a goner she would pull me up long enough to get s breath & then down again. Folks believed That that stuff would make you go blind, Actually it is harmless.

We had 1 mean hound. 1 Day mom could not find me. Fearing the worst, she went to the hounds. there he was sitting out side his house, guarding me.

More later

As I may have mentioned, 1 of my lest favorite things is , going to town.

Well got tired of a rear tire going flat every now & then.
So the truck got 2 new tires, for Christmas.
Riley chased me down & went along. Can't drive fast enough on these roads to out run her. Even at 25 to 30 MPH she is right there.
Did learn her latest way of getting in & out. Jump a fence over 4 feet high & come through under the barb wire just above it.

Was also going to pick up A little food. Mainly some more of those inch thick pork chops & a nice Sirloin steak.

I went to the last funeral at Boot Hill in Tombstone. About 4 years old at the time. Boot Hill is 1 of the last tourist things left that's free.

Old mans name was either Hunnley or Nunlley. His grave is just out side the entrance to the grave yard. He was a friend of Grand dad's. he went down to a coup of coffee with the old man & found him dead.
Funeral was somewhat delayed. Hearse as it blew both rear tires & went down a steep bank, Took a while for the driver to get in town, call Bisbee & have another sent out.

Grand Dad & I were the ones that represented the family. No real next of kin known.

Jim

Well Christmas day was pretty nice. The dogs & I staid home, had tomilies & beer.

Bobby is spoiled, Riley still rotten & Dog still strange. Knows his name & will some times come to me. Worked his way into the house, lays & sleeps on the couch. Mostly when I speak to him he just looks at me & wags his tail.
Today cold & windy. Went out fed the birds & was going to have beer & tomilies. Barely finished 1 beer & came back in.

Guess it is winter.

Jim

25 this AM & that is COLD. May get up too 56 today. Still not warm in my book.
If I drank hard liqueur that would be my choice. Not a good day for wine or beer.

As a kid my friends & I use to play in the mines. I even had a bed roll in a big room, my girlfriend & I would go down there when were supposed to be at the movies. In 1 direction you could see the foundation to yhe "Crystal Palish". In another going somewhat deeper, go under a sand wash & come up on the other side. 2 /3 hundred yards away.

In another much deeper mine, with steps about 8/10 inches wide, going down a couple hundred feet,no hand rails. Should some have fallen, it was a long, steep slide down. Went swimming in this mine 1 time. Going on down to the bottom was a low tunnel, about 45 degrees or steeper, with mine car tracks, lead to the bottom. Everry thing still there. Mine cars, tracks & so on. We use to push each other around in the cars. The hoist was not in operation any longer. A couple of locals had found a seam of high grade ore & doing some mining. They also had a shot little cave where they stored some Dynamite. Guess who Stole It.

What was done with it is another story. Think terrorist.:D

Have I told you about the mule racing ???

more later,
Jim
