Guys be careful about putting an actual cigarette lighter into a power port. Many are plastic in construction and don't have the ceramic in the back for the center terminal as the original ones that actually came equipped with cigarette lighters. I would think that smoke, fire and flame might be the result from doing this.

I agree James. I was just waxing lyrical about the original purpose of, what today is referred to as, the power port. It's why it is still round when what people now charge is via a USB.

I'm a pipe smoker. If I 'need' to have a puff it's time to stop the tractor, get down & stretch my legs. The old vehicle lighters wouldn't work when lighting a pipe anyway.

I did a somewhat similar thing, but ran mine to an area beneath my seat so that I could plug in a ROPS mounted amber "whoop-whoop" rotating light. I only plug that in if I'm driving on a public road.

Exactly where New Holland installs theirs.

Good point !!!

As I read your post, I began to speculate that dashes on cars today are all made of plastic. Every automobile in my yard has a 'Steel' dash in it with an ashtray and Cigarette lighter placed in the receptacle. Our newest car is a truck an it is dated 1979. Although trivial; my tractor has a plastic dash and a fuel tank sitting inside, which makes me wonder if it would handle the heat produced by the element in the lighter- I am afraid the tractor would pick up the smoking habit too.

I think koua is right, keep the lighter in the pocket and not in the dash.
