Why there is no 22 to buy.

At least once a week I go into stores that carry ammunition. I have seen 22LR only one time in at least 3 years.

It must be regional on supply and hoarders.

The cost of just doing business keeps going up. Expecting to pay the same price of just 10 years ago isn't going to happen.

We can get 22lr. It is usually about $10 per hundred for the better CCI or compatible stuff. Good luck on the 22 magnum. The Yeti tumblers are scarce too.

It is small light weight. You can carry hundreds of rounds in the same space as other hunting bullets. Its report when fired is much quieter than any other round. Not to give away your location or attract attention. A well placed round will kill most anything in the USA. The US military issues it as a survival gun. It will not destroy game meat. Making it good for small game and birds.

See, I am pretty much with your line of thought. Is it the best cartridge ever, well maybe not, but it might be the most useful cartridge ever for the reasons given. Sure I like lots of other cartridges, but If I had to choose in a survival situation, do you want 2 ounces of 30-06 cartridges and the rifle they fit in or do you want 2 ounces of .22 cartridges and the rifle they fit in... Well. I am going to choose the .22LR for sure... by the way that would be about 1 30-06 round or about 8 .22LR rounds.

IMO a 22LR isn't big enough to humanly kill something much bigger than a raccoon. Something a little bigger like one of one of my favorite calibers a 22 Hornet has significantly more range and knock down power. If you don't reload a 22 hornet is to expensive to shoot at about $20 for a 20 count box. I can reload them for less than $15 per hundred. I also like my 221 fireball and 22 BR. Both of those calibers also require reloading. If I didn't reload I would be forced to use a 17 HMR at about $12 per 50. If I want extreme knock down power it's time for the 45/70 or 454 casull. Those are quite a handful. A 44 magnum is more practical.

I just bought two 500 round bricks of Remington thunderbolts at Cabelas for 29.00.

Was in there getting something else and saw them on a counter. Asked the guy how much and grabbed a couple.

Still seemed high but it was fairly painless.
