We didn't get our first stock trailer till 1990. Before that it was a 3/4 ton long bed truck with stock racks. Cattle had gates tied over the top to stop jumping. Sheep and hogs top was left open.
After a 2800+ lb bull was taken to market very slowly. He only fit at a 45* angle in the bed. And the truck leaned with his weight shifts. My grandfather decided that that was enough and got our first trailer. Still have it too.
I remember the 1 ton chevrolet pickups with stock racks... some had GMC... can't recall seeing anyone with a Ford.
The ranch horses would just jump right in and two would fit side by side... most Arabs and Quarter Horses...
Sometime we thought they looked forward to riding after a day rounding up stock...
