LED Garage Lights

LED's may have a lower lumen output than fluorescent, but 100% of the lumens are directed downward vs 360* for the fluorescents. Half the fluorescent light goes "elsewhere". I suspect "usable" lumens are better at the work surface.

That's why when we get into these discussions I suggest getting an app like Lux for Android so at least you can compare relative lumens

And not all LED are directed DOWN

Did just that... using the 'Lightmeter' app it consistently 200+ vs. 50 or so comparing my new Costco LED 4ft vs. old T-12 cool whites. Tried 'Lux' app on my iPhone and it read Aperture, Shutter, and ISO. I didn't see lumens as an output but I might not understand the settings. Anyways... the shop LED lights are blowing away my old T-12s... observed and measured. Swapping out all as soon as I can.

I had to spend the day in Houston yesterday (groan) and looked at the 4 ft. LED lights at both Costco and Sam's Club. $29.99 at both places but, the Costco are 4000K color temperature and the ones at Sam's Club are 5000K.

Another happy user of the Costco Feit LED units. Have three installed and they are great. Particularly since it's getting colder now.

At the local Costco those are $29.99, with a $10 instant rebate at checkout.

I asked them about the rebate and they looked me like I had 2 heads?

We have several of the high pressure sodium "yard lights" around the ranch buildings. I am considering replacing them with LED type as bulbs burn out or light sensors go bad.

Honeywell Galvanized LED Barn Light - Sam's Club

Does anyone have any experience with LEDs outdoors and how they attract bugs as compared to incandescent lamps?

Which is closer to "soft" light...I seem to prefer what I guess you would call a little "warmer" white?? i.e. 4000K or 5000K? While I seem to need more and more light for daily tasks (68 years young)...I do not want to get overwhelmed with a bright, stark white.

Any thoughts? May try a local hardware store and experiment with one four foot replacement fixture (simple hanging/plug in fixture) with LED lights.

Thanks...TMR

The higher the Kelvin color temperature numbers, the "whiter" the light. 4000 K would be a warm white while 5000 K would be a brighter white. See below.
