Toy guns that fire projectiles require an orange tip. Replica firearms do not. Many of them are metal and have the weight of the real McCoy.

I have a $15 BB pistol that from 10 feet you cannot tell the difference between it and my real Beretta 96 pistol. Looks and functions just like the real thing. If I pointed it at you, you would not think it was anything but a real pistol.

Teens have been shot by the cops for brandishing such things.

Yeah, that was none too smart on the teen's part. He was obviously lacking in the "adult supervision" department. IOW, parental supervision.

According to eBay, cap guns do, too, even though they don't fire a projectile.

Last night they sent me a survey to see how well I appreciated their taking off my listing. I blasted them. I feel better now, tossed cap gun in the trash.

When I was a kid, my dad had a BB pistol that looked like a semi-auto pistol. The front 2" of the barrel would tip forward and you'd stick in one BB and close it. Then you'd release the slide, which would pop back several inches with a spring, then you'd have to compress the slide forward to pressurize the gun. Then you'd take your shot and repeat. Can't find a picture of one on-line anywhere. Anyhow, in the dark, it looked real enough that I'd expect to get shot if I pointed it at someone that was armed. All metal. Dark blued.

I had a .357 Crossman co2 pistol like that. It was a revolver and looked just like the real McKoy in the dark. Fired .177 pellets.

Just a comment ........... I was recently shown a pistol that was confiscated from a local kid. I believe it was an Airsoft product.

The orange had been removed and the fella showing me the pistol did not tip me off what it was.

Be aware I've handled Glocks since they first came out in the eighties. This pistol was the same weight and the same appearance as a real Glock. Even the logo on the side of the slide was identical. The only giveaway was the brass ring about 3/8" inside the barrel.

I was frankly stunned and I better understand how folks get shot when they have "toys".
