All good info here...All I and the wife eventually want is something that gets out of its own way and can make some noise along with some posi patches and shift chirps...A 9 sec run really isn't in the cards, I don't think anyway:D

Like the (mostly) direct replacement with the 200, good stuff there. No drive shaft alterations etc. (hopefully).

Correct, the 200 4 R is a direct replacement length and splines, but the mount is interchangeable with T 400 mount location, not the 350.

Last winter I had one of our Cruze Turbodiesels with newly-mounted winter tires. We got an early AM snowstorm so the first commuters just packed it down and turned it into ice. Traffic was a horror show.

Got off Rt 93 onto Rt 28 in NH. At the next light a Cadillac Escalade and an F250 both nailed it on the green light and started spinning their wheels: the finest "no-season" tires at work.

At the next light where there was three lanes I pulled up next to them, and just drove away without even spinning a tire [General Altimax Arctic]. Never understood why people spend $50,000 on a truck and use lousy tires.

Most times it has nothing to do with the tires, just the nut behing the wheel who doesn't know how to ease off the line. Same thing with getting stuck, "Oh, I'll just run it up to 6,000, that'll get me out"...Nope, just digs you in deeper.

Had a new '89 firebird with 245/50/16 Gatorbacks, totally worthless on ice, not much better on rain.

Funny about tires; although I don't know much about them, I do recall when we switched from bias plys to radials. Sharn Jean had a 1968 Impala that was crazy on ice with the bias plys, but when we switched to radials, it was like a tank. It would go anywhere. I recall driving it to work one day on the ice, not having any particular problem until I stopped at a stoplight. It was so slick the car slid sideways into the curb after I was fully stopped!

My daughter was following her boyfriend home last night. He was in his Mustang. 15MPH on a curve in a housing development and she sees his car just flip around, wipe out a maibox and end up in a yard. She said it happened in an instant and it upset her. Ice. He stopped and knocked on doors until he found out who's yard he damaged and left them his info for the person that owned the mailbox, too. Then they went home and she made him tell his dad. Anyhow, it was good for her to see how quickly someone can loose control on ice even at really low speed. Shook up the boyfriend, too. I told her I was glad it wasn't while they were going 60 down the highway like they were just a few minutes earlier. ;)

No excuse for not having tires with the mountain and snowflake symbol on the sidewall during winter .

I grew up in N Idaho and learned to drive on ice roads back in the 40s/50s. Driven coast to coast in through the norther tier in winter. Still living in snow country. I don't think you have anythign to show me.

Winter drivin; you might get surprised.

There's more than the nut behind the wheel involved.
