Mahindra 2555 Shuttle
Hello all.

I will apologize ahead of time for what might seem like silly questions, but I'm new to the tractor world.

I just purchased a Mahindra 2555 Cab, Shuttle shift, with Backhoe, and now after reading several posts I have a lot of questions. I'll try to go to the right forum with my questions.... once I figure out were to go.

my 1st question is about category 1 vs category 2, 3 point hitch. In reading the spec sheets on category sizes and weight limits it states that Cat 1 is sized for tractor up to 45HP, but my tractor is a 55HP, why is is sold with with Cat 1 not Cat 2?

Question No 2. Will Cat 1 really limit me when it comes to equipment options like, bush hogs, landscape rakes, rear blades, log winch, wood chippers, and haying equipment?

Hi. Welcome.

Congratulations on the new tractor.
The reason for your 55hp tractor may have to do with the weight of the tractor. Others with this model may know more on this.
As to implements. The ones you mention should be fine with cat 1. Cat 1 will limit you on larger attachments. Most attachments specify what size they require.

Welcome to TBN.
There are lots of experts on here. I am not one of them.
You will be fine, many of the implements come in Cat 1. It's probably not that big of deal to see if your dealer would switch yours out to Cat 2 if its really bothering you. When I ordered mine I had the choice so I picked Cat 2. I do need bushings on a few of my implements though.

Welcome! For most implements you will be fine. If you were doing heavy tillage then you may want a Cat2 but I think you will appreciate the Cat 1 because you will have a much larger selection of lower cost implements that will hook up without bushings.

Category 1 implements are where the sales volume exists. Category 1 implements are usually cheaper, pound for pound, than Category 2 implements. Often by a considerable margin.

Look at Category 1 implement in widths as wide as your rear tires and up to 24" wider. You should find plenty in weights of interest.

Haying may be the exception. But getting into hay production calls for a big investment in equipment, not practical for most.

If your tractor is 2-WD Vs 4-WD, Mahindra engineers may feel 2-WD would not pull Cat 2 implements satisfactorily.

I agree with staying with Cat 1 due to the number of options. If this is your first tractor your probably not a farmer and won't need Cat 2 98% of the time. That said.. I'm only guessing so your the one to decide what you will be using if for.

I have found that the majority of the of the implements I want do come in Cat 1 and like some of you have said, they are less expensive.
As for haying equipment that is quickly becoming necessary. We do have a small farm with 7 horses, 20 sheep, pigs, and I'm thinking of a beef cow in the near future. The person I have been haying with for many years is getting out of the business due to age and health reasons. Up to now I have been getting my hay for around $1 a bail, but once my friend stop haying I'm looking at close to $4 - $5 a bail for house quality hay. I use between 1250 - 1400 bails a year. I do have the option to pickup the fields my friend is giving up. So the hey is mine if I can bail it myself.

My 2555 is a 4wd. I would love to buy my friends equipment but he will be keeping it for his sons. They still have livestock and will need to hay their own fields.

I'll read up on haying equipment in the haying link that was provided by jeff9366

Thank you all
