Not too long ago stores would fill out your check for you by running thru the register printer. Now at many stores such as Walmart and TSC the clerk converts your paper check to an electronic debit transaction. You don't even have to fill it out before you hand it over, just hand it to the clerk and they scan it in. It captures the routing and account number and they hand you back the check. It saves them time and money, no trips to the bank and money is guaranteed. You don't have an option to have them run it through the old fashion way as their system is not set up to do it anymore.

The only Walmart just closed with 48 hours notice... very busy store and the only grocery store in a heavily populated area...

Thinking is Walmart closed because the city increased minimum wage to $12.55 an hour with a benefit requirement and mandatory sick leave...

Looks like mostly express and neighborhood stores, whatever those are, and then mostly in the SE

I bought the computer I'm using at that store... I think the workers had at most 2 or 3 days notice... one week severance for each year for those not picked up at another Walmart.

The minimum wage going up sent a ripple through the economy... nearby cities had to up wages because if you could get the same job for 25% more simply being 5 minutes away... why stay.

It also caused some businesses to shelve plans.

The Walmart Supercenter store has been there since 2005 and has good volume since day one...

I sent mine in on the 15th... every time my checking account gets flush it seems to be just about the time my quarterly is due...

A lot of folks would go to the Utility pay stations around here... almost all have closed... some going back 80+ years.

No check needed... just pay cash and get a receipt.
