Ford 8000 Block hearter

Howdy all my 1971 Ford 8000 has two factory Block heaters and they both went bad so i ordered a new aftermarket one. I drained the antifreeze, removed the old one and cleaned and scraped away the old residue even took some scuff paper and cleaned it up. Put the new one in and Got it good and snug as the manual says. Then i put the antifreeze back in till it started to pour out the top of the plug. I tightened it up alittle more still wont seal. The owners manual said not to put any sealent around it but, local tractor shops say it wont hurt to put a thin layer around it is that true anyone have any ideas if not thanks for the help.

Yeah top of the heater lip/ring the sides and bottom are good and its sealed all way around maybe a bad ring on the new plug?

Could very well be or maybe you don't have it in quite evenly? Are both at the same elevation on the block or are you just replacing one? If replacing both, is one holding water?

Just changing one atm wanted to see how much trouble they will be the other will require the starter to come out first. I will take it back out and check to see if there is any damage after the snow is gone and it warms up a little lol I'd kill for a concrete shop with heat i'm just in my little lean-to with 3 side's and no heat lol but it beats nothing and its outta the rain and snow. Thanks for your help i will update post with new info soon with what i find out.

Update: So i contacted the company that i bought the heater from. They said not to put the sealant around and just buy another $40 heater that i "Must have messed the old one up." So i asked a friend who's a 40 year mechanic who said to "Go ahead with the sealant it will not affect it's operation." Since they were unwilling to replace the bad item i removed it again lightly sanded the hole inside and out to make sure there were no fine burs. I put a small bead of High temp water proof sealant around the plug slipped it in and let it dry for 24 hours filled the coolant Back up. No leak's so i let it warm the motor up for about an hour and it fired up and ran good with no leaks. Glad to have that fixed and i only wasted 5 gallons of antifreeze thanks to there bad product Ring. Lesson learned i guess thanks for the help
