USPS = Horrible Service

I read more than that in his OP. There was clear evidence of falsifying delivery attempts. Late or not, that's plain LYING.

Sent from my iPhone 2.0 using TractorByNet

I went back and read it again, 3 or 4 times. I don’t see anything that shows they lied about attempting to deliver it. He said they did, but the story doesn’t even suggest as much.
If someone orders something that requires a signature, either stick around the house or don’t be so stubborn and refuse to go get it. Again, he wanted it Friday and it made it Monday. I think the world will go on.

All this because something was a day or two late.

Well, when one pays a premium to have something delivered overnight or in two days, and it takes an extra day or so to arrive, yes, that is a problem. If FedEx or UPS had the consistent problem my parents have sending us packages like we have seen with the USPS, the companies would be out of business. Grandma is paying quite a bit of money to have a package arrive on a given day and I would bet that at best 50% of the USPS packages sent by grandma are delivered on time. I don't think the problem is in our post office either. We get great service from them. Nice and friendly people. The problem is in Florida.

And even if they did, maybe the guy just checked the wrong thing? Its not like the outcome would be any different or mean anything. The point is, for whatever reason (which is irrelevant) the package wasnt delivered. And if you would like to pick it up.....here is how to do it. Which is one thing I do like about USPS. If for whatever reason the package dont get delivered (signature needed and Im not home, bad weather, etc) I can always run 5 minutes into town and grab it if I need it ASAP.

Not how it works in florida... if you aren't there, it goes back to the post office and you get a orange tag. you can then either:

sign the tag and put it back in your box for the carrier to pick up the NEXT day, asking them to re deliver the package the NEXT day. IE.. wait 3 days,

or

go to the post office the NEXT day and pick it up. No missing the delivery and running right down to pick it up. The carriers must all hang out and wait till 5:29 before returning to the post office, then hop out of their trucks at 5:30 and the post office is closed. No such thing as missing the delivery and getting it the same day. ASAP is not in the USPS lexicon...

Not that simple with UPS or FedEx

Actually, it is MUCH more simple.

1, USPS and FEDEX have a MUCH better tracking system, scan in and scan out at each location or tracking specific event. VS the 1940's USPS tech of a scan in, sometimes, if they feel like it, then hope it makes it to the next destination for a scan in, otherwise it floats around and you don't know where it is.

2, With a MYUPS account, you can get real time tracking on your smart phone, and postpone deliveries BEFORE the first attempt, or have them held at a center for you to pick up at your convienience, again.. BEFORE the first delivery attempt. Fedex calls their account 'delivery manager', and you can do the same thing. redirect or hold shipments BEFORE they attempt.

Both will do address correcting and 'notes to driver / special instructions' Also, with your address registered in the UPS app, you can set it up so that as soon as someone generates a mailing label to you, you get a notification that you have a package inbound.

USPS offers NONE of that.

I MUCH prefer UPS or FEDEX.

I CRINGE when someone tells me that they ONLY SHIP USPS.

I had USPS deliver me an 'adult sig required' package the other day. left it leaning up against my farm gate by the road. No signature! Didn't even have the decency to set it OVER the gate onto my property!

Now that's SERVICE! :(

If it wasnt for the DMV, I think USPS would be in the bottom of the bucket service wise..

He said he chose the 5-7 day option. That's just standard service, no expediting.
You’ll find just as many complaints with UPS and FedEx as you will with the USPS. They all have their problems, but considering the amount of things they deal with it’s pretty impressive. If you don’t like the service, you always have the option of doing it yourself. Of course, then who would people bytch about.
To be fair, UPS and FedEx tracking systems are better than USPS, though USPS is much improved over what it was a few years ago.

Sorry, you said,
All this because something was a day or two late.

If you had meant to reference the OP's post you should have quoted it. Our families experience with USPS mail to/from FLA is horrible and goes back close to a quarter century. It is consistently bad. We do NOT have this problem with UPS and FedEx.

There are plenty of other people on TBN talking about service issues with USPS. It is a long term, multiple discussion problem that has been going on for years on TBN.

We are lucky in that our local USPS is danged good and has been consistently good for years. Other people on TBN have had consistently bad service for years from the USPS.

Any organization will have its bad people and bad days. The question is how often do they have a problem and how is it resolved. We order quite a bit of stuff via mail order and the vast majority of it has been delivered to us on time via USPS, FedEx and UPS. USPS Mail, to/from FLA, is almost always going to take more time even when paying a premium to have a delivery on a given date.

You got that right! :D

Another wise man once told me that no one but yourself can make you upset. Others can only influence the conditions around you. Unfortunately for some of us it's easy to let the conditions accumulate and result in being upset because of them.

If you don稚 like the service, you always have the option of doing it yourself. .

That is an incorrect statement.

If the person(s) you are doing business with refuse to ship any other way than USPS, then you don't have the option to use a different shipper. ...

Well I'll say that the last two mail ladies we had were absolutely great, good enough that I always gave them something for Christmas. The one we have now - not so great. She won't get out of her jeep. If there's a package too big to fit into the mailbox, she'll blow the horn twice, drop a note and drive off. Says she afraid my German Shepperd will jump the four foot fence and come after her.
