Water/Diesel mix in filter.

Got I hope not to dumb of a question for those in the know. Does water stay separated from fuel in the filter with the engine running? Does the fresh flow of fuel from the lift pump stir it up like shaking your salad dressing?

It will build up in the tank then flow to the filter and eventually make it to the engine. During downtime it will freeze in the line and or filter blocking fuel flow. It will make the engine stall or run rough.
In oil it will mix and look milky. Will separate back out.

Water should be caught by the filter up to a point where the filter can hold no more water. If there is water present, change the filter and locate the source, the onboard tank or your supply.
You don't want water getting to the engine, obviously.

Guys thanks for your reply's . I'm having an issue with fuel lines freezing up on a SSL. Drained the tank,replaced the filter.Still freezes up. primer bulb goes crunch when you squeeze it.Only thing I can think of is I'm not completly emptying the tank. This unit has no drain plug. I emptied the tank via the fuel line to the pump.:confused3:

Get 911 in there pronto! Good stuff and it works! It somehow absorbs the water. STP makes a similar product almost identical in packaging. Strange!

Apparently water going to your injectors turns to steam and can blow pieces off of your injector. So I have read, although hard to believe.

On direct injected engines water does destroy the injector tips. On the indirect injected I am not sure if it would damage the injectors or not.

Agree he needs to get some fuel conditioner in the system.

Water is hard on the injectors, and it will ruin the tips.

Water has very little lubricating value, to almost none in a deisel system. So its not lubricating the pump or injectors when it goes through.

The filter is designed to catch the water. it will catch it till it becomes to full and it makes its way into the injector lines. So change it or drain the filter if it has a drain on it. Normally you should not get much water in the filter in the course of running in bwtween filter changes.

Put the Bobcat treatment in when I drained the tank. It pretty much did nothing. Where do I find this 911 stuff??

Power Service 911 in the red bottle. Any ranch type store will have it as will most auto parts stores. Red bottle is for emergency use. White is for normal fuel maintenance & to prevent diesel gelling.
