Would a gate solve the problem?

How about one of those fancy schmancy one way gates at the car rental place. You can drive in but you can't drive out without destroying the tires. They can be lowered to let people leave without puncturing their tires.

Problem is they'd probably find some way to sue you for damaging their tires.

And what about that time when you need to have one of your kids come over in the middle of the night? What if you had to call an Ambulance and they couldn't get in? What if your house caught on fire and the firetruck couldn't get through? This just sounds like a bad idea.

It's a pain getting in & out of the truck, but we keep our gates locked. Matter of fact, all access points have gates and locks. No unwanted visitors.

Now they make fake spikes, look real but they're rubber, maybe that would help! :D

I'm just venting, realistically there's not much I can do.

Many years ago I was working for an excavating contractor. When the nearby interstate opened, people would miss the on ramp then turn around using his driveway right up the road. He too tired of repairing his property especially with the equipment stored at a different location.

We loaded up two of the largest boulders we could get on the lowbed and placed them on either side of his drive. While it did not stop the turn arounds, he no longer had to repair damage to the yard though he did have to pick up a lot of red plastic and such.

We had a similar issue. Our drive is at the end of a .5 mi private road. People would come down "just to see" and then turn around, but never in the wide parking area - they had to go over the flower bed or on the lawn. Some of them came down at a good clip too. We were getting several a week and I used to put traffic cones at the end next to 2 no trespassing signs, one guy drove over the cone just to see what was down there.

I got so sick of it that we put up a gate. Now we get no turn arounds, though I see lots of people turn in the drive up from the gate. The gate actually works open almost as well as closed, which is nice. Someday I'm sure some idiot is going to drive through it, but at least we'll have their license (gate has cameras) and theyll have some pretty severe vehicle damage!

During hunting season I put a chain & lock on my outer gate. I swear to God, a lot of people can't read or just don't give a dam. They don't come in to turn around - they are there to hunt on my land & the neighbors land without permission. No Trespassing signs, private property signs, private driveway signs - nothing - other than the locked gate - will deter them. For some reason the idea of private property just doesn't resonate with them.

Just why I (and my in-laws that also live down here "on the ridge") are happy, happy, happy with our solar gate operator!

Gates with locks is the only way. I used to have just latches on my gates but came home one day with two fellows walking around my yard and shop looking at my tractors and dozer. I asked them if they saw the signs for private property and noticed the closed gate, both admitted they did but told since it was not locked it should be ok for them to visit.
