I had a 700' driveway through a woods to my house. A couple hundred feet before the house was a pole shed and a small y turn around. I heard some noise one day that sounded like an engine racing. I looked out the window and a small pickup was over the edge a little bit and he was spinning up gravel trying to get out. He was spraying gravel all over my Toyota truck.

As soon as he saw me coning he stopped. I looked my truck over and didn't see anything wrong so I hesitantly pulled him out. I should have just let him sit and call a tow company, but I am to easy going to my detriment at times... The next day I saw my rear view mirror was cracked all to crap. Guess I missed it.

My property is on a private road. There are only two houses past me on that road. The farthest one has large sign with a picture of a revolver and the words "There is nothing here that is worth losing your life." I Don't know the guy, but I'm sure I like him already.

We loaded up two of the largest boulders we could get on the lowbed and placed them on either side of his drive. While it did not stop the turn arounds, he no longer had to repair damage to the yard though he did have to pick up a lot of red plastic and such.

After we bought our place but before I could put up a gate, I put a cable across the road with lots of bright flagging. I have noticed people are now using a PVC pipe to high light the cable which is a much better idea. Anywho, I went out to the place one Saturday morning to work and noticed the cable was not quite right. :confused3:

The road is built above grade and there is woods on both sides so there is no way to drive off the road and around the cable. I had just pounded some cheap fence posts in the ground to hold the cable 18-24 inches off the ground. Twas not even locked...

On that Saturday, the cable was almost to the ground and I soon figured out why. Some Ya Hoo had tried to drive OVER the cable. :laughing::laughing::laughing: Tore up the front end of his car really good given the amount of plastic left behind. :shocked: Moron. What the driver tried to do was to just run over the cable since it was low to the road. This sorta worked while the tires were on the cable but then the cable popped up and caught the underside of the car when the tires were off the cable. Somewhere in driving forward over the cable, or backing back off the cable, that car go tore up.

Sad thing was all the driver had to do was get out of the car and put the cable on the ground buy they did not even look.

I wonder what the driver said to his mommy and daddy. :laughing::laughing::laughing: I assume it was some teenagers...

We have llamas, which are still kinda unusual in our area. Also a long driveway, the house is about 1,000 ft. from the road. Usually they just stop at the road and look but every so often we'll look out and see someone has driven up the drive all the way to the barn (that's about 2 tenths of a mile distance). Occasionally they will get out and hang over the fence hoping the llamas will come over to see them. I try to be polite as long as they are, it's mostly older folks with the grand kids in tow. So I answer questions and on they go.

In the early 90's we built a log house on 3 acres and I was stunned at the number of people that took it upon themselves to inspect the house on their own. Was more concerned about that because we didn't live close by and we were the first house in the large lot development, our contractor (local firemen and son of the log house dealer) kept some tools there and they weren't on the job every day because of the firehouse schedule. Also the lumber and logs they were working with were up at the house, northern white cedar and very expensive (and light enough to easily handle). The others were kept in a locked pole barn but that wouldn't deter a determined thief. Had to run off many people from that place. No respect for people's property!

And what about that time when you need to have one of your kids come over in the middle of the night? What if you had to call an Ambulance and they couldn't get in? What if your house caught on fire and the firetruck couldn't get through? This just sounds like a bad idea.

If you read the post, it said it lets people in.

It just doesn't let them out without pushing a button in the house. No different than having an electric or locking gate.

Around here we don't put out signs like that, because you risk being targeted by people who want what you have.

I'm hesitant to put any type of sign up like that. If God forbid you did have to shoot someone while protecting your family, I'm sure the defendants lawyer would use that sign against you, saying something like he was looking to shoot someone.

I am in agreement. But I like knowing the neighbors don't want to sit down with thieves and talk about their childhood.
