MF1635 - front wheel assist will not engage , 20 inch snow , worthless

If the lever is moving to easy, the roll pin which holds the lever to the shaft may be sheared. Have someone move the lever as you see if the shaft is turning with the lever.

First time it has happened and when needed the most . Any suggestions ?? tractor stopped , clutch in , nothing ! and without it the **** thing will not move in the snow

Did you solve the puzzle ? My guess is that it was no where near cold enough for "froze up" ideas. Our Kubota sprung an hydraulic leak at the seal of the steering cylinder when I fired it up and hastily tried to move too quick in very cold weather. Others claim that could not cause the problem but it sure seemed to. My guess is that when you fired it up ready to go move snow you blew a seal in the steering cylinder. If you do not see any external leaks I think that can still be internal. My guessing out of the way, what have you actually found ?

Dealer told me to put it in low gear and slowly move forward and reverse while trying to engage , it worked finally. Dealer said what you said , not even close enough to being too cold. I plan on hauling it to dealer for him to check it out anyway in Ashland VA . Gears not lining up ? Love the tractor just picked a bad time with 20 inch snow

Oh ! I just realized I completely misunderstood. I thought you meant steering when you said "front wheel assist" and now I realize you probably meant 4 wheel drive or what tractor mfrs insist on calling "mechanical front wheel drive." I agree with the dealer 100% -- Often my Kubota 4wd does not want to engage first try-- and all I have to do is, as they said, move forward and backward a little bit and re-try. I have also found that any turning left or right puts stress on the difference between front and rear wheel drive shaft rotation and that makes it harder to disengage too. My first guess is there is nothing wrong with your machine. Good luck !
