MF 1529 Blown engine. What to replace it with?

Hi all. New member here. I have got a little bit of an issue and was wondering if the brain trust here can help me.

I have a 2010 MF 1529 with 350 hours and the engine is shot. The intake hose decided to crack just before the manifold and the engine has been sucking in dirt and is basically a write off. I have taken the engine apart and parts costs and machining labor will almost exceed the price of a complete engine. The fact that Agco charges $ 250 for one set (and we need 3...)of piston rings doesn't help either.....

Anyways, I have been told that previous/older engines fit this model. I don't have information of the model numbers of these previous engines. Only thing I know that it's a E3CD engine in there now.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if older, or any other engine models will fit the 1529 ( I found a E3AD1) or any of you guys know where I could find a used E3CD engine......

Why would you not replace the engine, if that is what it needs, with the same configuration reducing fit issues? Also, have you contacted independent reputable diesel mechanics for quotes to repair?

Lastly, what happened to it such that the engine was sucking dirt into the combustion? Was it not noticed?

Ouch that hurts ! Make sure MF didn't have any recalls or tsb's on the hose, you never know they might help you out. Just had a fan break and go through the radiator on an '08 IH truck , found a recall for the fan clutch. After no interest IH will now pick up the cost for new fan,clutch and repair of $2000 radiator.

Fine a engine builder in your area They will give you a much better price.

I saw that but also know that relatively new intake hoses don't "decide" to crack. Curious what happened to it.

It actually "sheared" right off. No signs of outside force causing the hose to fail. Both the Massey dealer and the Agro Field Manager admitted there wasn't any blame on the owner/operator, aka, me. Dirt got into the top and bottom, causing scoring into the walls and pistons, and basically destroying the piston rings and valve guides (Valve guides can't be bought separate from Agro). On top of this when the machine shop looked at the head they noticed small cracks, rendering the cylinder head useless. That's $ 2500 right there.

I have been in contact with the Western Canadian Manager of Agro about this issue. He actually came to my house to see the damage. I have been dealing with both the dealer and Agro to get some kind of help to get this solved. This is all I say about it for now as the claim is still pending.

For repair of the engine, I have taken it apart and a local machine shop quoted me on the machining that needs to be done. At this point the complete bill for all parts needed will exceed $ 7000 and about replacing the complete engine; the complete engine will be over $ 10.000. Remember, this is all parts. Labor is on me. I truly hope you all won't need any parts as they are absolutely ridiculously expensive.

Hard to imagine why the head has "small cracks". That isnt something caused by dirt being ingested. Either the head was faulty, or the thing overheated.

And I am guessing there is nothing special about the rings. If you know the bore, and the thickness of the rings, and material, should be able to get them much cheaper from an engine builder. The $250 sounds more like a "piston kit" though. Which would normally come with a new piston, rings, retainers, piston pin, and piston pin bushing

Agree, the head damage is not related to dirt ingestion. Have to deal with it though. No it's not a piston kit. To be exact; the rings, per piston, are $321.50 and a piston only with no rings is $275.81. This times 3 for the engine......
