Was wondering if hydraulic tools like breakers or chainsaws can be run off the remotes of CUTs like my Bobcat CT225?

Was looking at hydraulic tools the other day just out of curiosity which made me wonder about powering them from a tractor.

Things like:

Chainsaws

Breakers

Post drivers

Depends on the tool PSI and flow demands vs. the PSI and flow your tractor is capable of delivering.

Never thought of this - might be worth trying. Attachments that require high flow likely won't work....

I ran a chainsaw off a CT-445 with no problem.

I suspect a breaker would require more flow and pressure than a CUT could provide as most Skid steers are running in the neighborhood of 20 gpm and 3,000 psi. I had SS QC's on the front of mine so I could but after owning it I don't' think that loader woudl have handled a breaker very well.

A hydraulic auger would be really nice on the FEL. That way you would have down pressure and be able to reverse direction.

If you want to run bigger tools you would need to use a PTO powered pump that could give you more pressure and flow. I suspect that with some redneck ingenuity you could rig one up to work.

I would use caution doing this since I suspect most of the hydraulic cooling systems on CUT's are not sized for the pump to be operated at continuous duty.

Most of the hydraulic tools we run usually require either 10gpm or 5gpm and only about 1250psi. This includes impacts, small chainsaws and drills. grinders and jackhammers. I would suspect just bout any Cut would be able to provide those flows and pressures. The kicker is as oldnslo said, the tractor hydraulic systems most likely wont keep everything cool enough. Most of our equipment has 200gal cap hyd tanks and large oil coolers and the tools will still get so hot you cant hold on to them.

Good point about the cooling. Hadn't thought about that.

As often happens something else brought hydraulic tools to my attention and then off down the rabbit hole I went.

A neighbor bought a Polaris/HIPPO rig which includes the ability to run hydraulic tools. The HIPPO unit does 0-8 gpm @2000psi. So I was thinking of all the neat tools he needed to buy that I would want to use. ;)

And then I was thinking, my tractor has hydraulics...

Woah, that chainsaw would be bad a**ed! Bet you would need some long hydraulic hoses to make it usable with the tractor. Wonder how that would affect hydraulic pressure (sort of like a garden hose looses pressure the longer it gets)?

I had 30 ft hoses and it ran great.

I never had an issue with heat. I also used my log splitter continuously and it would get the hydraulics warm but not hot. The chainsaw does not have much backpressure so I don't' think it works the pump hard like splitting wood does. I think that the axle, transmission, etc absorbs heat to some degree so even without a cooler it will do most functions without getting hot. Bobcat sold detent kits for the auxiliary hydraulics so I think that means they are designed for continuous use as opposed to just operating a cylinder in an out.

Interesting. Have to check the manual and see if it has anything to say about the use of the remotes.
