MF283 for the Interstate I find 5 over seems safer that 10 MPH under most of the time. We have a 14 hour trip the Sat then back next week so the cost of time is more than the cost of gas. I will note the affect of MPH on MPG.

Aaron thanks for the tip. I was ready about resetting the computer but I thought it was a dealer thing. I think the throttle position sensor is very active in setting shift points in this car. I need to clean the battery posts anyway and it would be good to pull the entire battery box and check under it in a 10 year old vehicle.

IME, and I have driven every state in the union except Hawaii, the 'flow rate' is always about 10% above the posted. that seems to be the point the bulls start writing tickets.

Hey, what do the Chevy Impala, Acura MDX, Toyota Camry XSE, Ford Edge Sport, Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost V6, Honda Accord EX-L V6, and the GMC Yukon Denali all have in common besides 4 doors?......

They are all apparently faster than a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500..... and that's just sad.... :(

I think the biggest reason for that is today's transmissions and traction. The 67 had if I remember right 8 inch tires where most of the ones you listed are fwd with wider tires. I'd think the mustang would be faster in the quarter still. One thing I know for certain non of the cars you listed will touch my 69 Mach 1. But being completely honest it's not near stock.

And, of course, which one would you rather be in on a lonely stretch of road on a nice summer evening with the windows down and no headlights for miles and miles? ;)

Yep you summed it up nicely. The new cars don't have the same feel.

I agree. Our 2013 Impala is a rocket. But it's throttle is electronic, so there's NO feedback to your foot whereas our 92 Suburban has a nice spring on the cable and pushes back against your foot. I can take the traction control off on the Impala and try to spin the tires in the snow but its hard to judge and I always end up with too much or too little throttle. On the Suburban, I can pump it just right and do all kinds of fun things in the snow! :)

BTDT My 57 chev in 1958, somewhere out in Arizona at 1am trying to stay wake to reach the town I saw lights of way off in the distance. I wouldn't want to repeat that, I should have ditched it but somehow didn't, kept shaking myself awake just long enough to get straighened out again.
