Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Speaking of HF on ebay, I remember back when it was mail order only from Camarillo there were several people on ebay selling HF stuff, at a considerable markup. That was when they paid the shipping on all orders over $50, so you could buy $250 worth of stuff and easily flog it for $400.

If the management of Sears wants to know why they're in trouble, they should look at their prices.

Bought a four drawer chest on sale for $159 marked down from $220. Found the exact same box on sale at Sears for $299, marked down from $329.

So I took my first trip to new HF store pretty much just to look around allthough I had some items on a list off of the web site I wanted to see. Mainly impact sockets and drive extensions.

The store was itself huge with stuff spread out all over, everything on display and all nice and clean. It was in where an old auto parts chain store was once located.

A couple things caught my eye right away one was the 68308 gloves.

Not bad looking and half the price of similar Mechanixs.

The other was this 4 pocket tool bag but I had recently purchased a new CLC suede leather pouch off of Amazon at the start of last season to replace my old one that must be all of 25 years old now. It was become pretty worn and was looking pretty shoddy with all chromed rivets heads getting all rusted now too and I figured eventually the leather hammer loop is going to break. Still using it though its my favorite :D

So that's kind of what I liked about this HF one. It had decent smooth grain tanned leather and had leather hammer loops and the new one doesn't. The kicker was it was really long, came home and looked on the web site. The complaining review was that it was so long in length that your hammer hits your below your knee too much!

And the other thing was I had first seen a $12.99 price card but on a closer look that was an Inside Track price and otherwise it was $19.99. There was a lot of that IT advertising in the store it seemed.

Believe it or not I passed up on everything my first trip! :D

So here's my future shopping list

1/2 to 3/8 impact adapters

1/2 Wobble extensions

37 piece Metric/SAE impact socket set

they ask for my phone number when I check out ... I think this is to keep mailing ads to customers who are using them. I get plenty of mail from them.
On their website, at the bottom under Customer Service, there's a link to Request Catalog. You can sign up for mailed catalogs and for emailed coupons.
That's my experience, they request a phone number at each purchase and that keeps the mailers and email coupons arriving.

Also after I leave the store they email me a copy of the transaction receipt. Are they doing this nationwide?

They do ask me for phone number when I check out, but they've never emailed me a reciept.

They ask me if I want the receipt emailed. That's more common with other stores now too.

I received an email from them after a recent visit and they had my purchases listed and asked me to give them a review.

My wife and I were in an antique shop last week and I had to laugh.... in a booth with lots of old hand tools, there was one case with some modern stuff. One of them was this digital caliper

Digital Calipers - Save on these 6 Inch Digital Calipers

from Harbor Freight that can routinely be had for under $20.00. The price on it in the antique store.....

$50.00!!!

Routine coupon price for that caliper is $9.99! HF's pricing is bizarre. The jumbo shop dustpan costs nearly as much, $8.99.
