Here's a good one. A friend's new F-350 diesel started acting up. Limped it to dealer. Was throwing all kinds of codes and was stuck in fifth gear.

Diagnosis: 6 modules in the transmission, all bad.

Here's the best part. Ford has none in the parts supply. Told him it will be about a month. In the meantime they gave him a cute little Focus to haul class 8 truck tires with, LOL.

I think we pull your man card for using the "C" word on this site... pretty sure! That is funny to think of going from an F350 to a Escort. He has probably lost some testosterone in that trade.

I just can't believe they don't stock parts for a current, best selling model. Sure you can say maybe it's not a normal failure....but come on.
Guy buys a $60,000 truck and has to drive a Focus for a month praying for parts.

Pretty sad.

I got a recall notice in the mail 7 months ago for my TJ Jeep. Fortunately its not for something critical because as of this date the dealer still does not have the parts.

This isn't unique to Ford, RAM has the same issues in its service and parts chain. I've read several long wait time posts for parts on the Cummins forum.

So is this parts availability related to offshore manufacturing?

The parts have to come all the way from Ohio

I had similar issue with my Taurus last year (in that I could not drive it until the recall was complete) where it had to sit at the dealer for two months waiting for parts (something about a gas filler neck leak), one of the service techs goes to our church so I asked him why it takes so long, I guess he felt enough freedom to tell me that ford does not put a priority on repairing cars that were already sold, but they prioritize the parts for vehicles still in production and in transit first. As parts become available they go to the volume dealers and down from there. I have way to know if that is the truth but seems plausible.

BTW- they gave me a blue focus, must be a ford thing:)

This seems to be getting pretty common even with class 8 trucks now too. Dealers aren't stocking parts like they used to and the manufacturers aren't supporting older models any more either.

What angers me is they stop producing key parts 7 years after a model is out of production.

I guess this is the way to sell vehicles every 7 years.
