With a new 16 f250 in transit these stories are not comforting...

Thing is I have friends with GMC and Dodge in similar situations.

I guess that is why I still have my 1985 van and 91 Silverado... and probably always will.

Don't know what my friend did at GMC but they got him another 3/4 ton so he could operate his business which is towing a 22' tag trailer up and down the state making deliveries...

His GMC was 6 weeks in the shop and with 2200 miles had a total powertrain swap... so far 50,000 miles trouble free.

What angers me is they stop producing key parts 7 years after a model is out of production. I guess this is the way to sell vehicles every 7 years.

Dang, really?? I was going to go to the dealer and buy a new key and key fob since my 2006 Z71 only came with one. Wonder where we go to get a spare key and key fob? eBay?

Let me rephrase that, key as in critical parts, gem modules (ford) fuel lines (gm my 04 needed them, out of production) and the list goes on...they are only required to supply parts for 7 years after a model run ends.

Support your dealer, forget fleabay.

I just traded my 12 F350 diesel last December for a 16 F450 V10, I just did not have a warm fuzzy feeling about the diesel motor. A couple months earlier something caused it to not start. It was towed to the dealer and fixed under warranty. .. That said, it was a 2012 with 11,500 miles. I'm all set with fixing it after the warranty is gone. $$$$$. The V10 platform has been around long enough and parts should be available if needed in the future.

A few years ago Ford recalled our decade old Winstar because of rusting out axles. Dealer ended up parking in field next door with many more for a 3-4 months as they waited for parts. Gave us fairly new rental car for that time. Suspect that Ford paid more for rental car then the van was worth.

You Sierra/Silverado key is the same blank as the sunfires and the 88-99 trucks. The loop (the thing the key ring clips on) of the key broke because it was plastic. The Guy at the dealer cut me two from the older metal blanks.

Need a key for my 2011, gonna be $40 because its chipped. Would like to get a fob too, only have one.

And now a new 2017 model on the way with a new transmission. And they don't have parts for the one that has been in production from 2011.

with all the government emmission rule changes manufacters can't get ahead seems like every year things change. they don't have long series of manufacture to work out bugs . makes parts difficult to stock when they change yearly.

Yeah, the fault in this situation obviously lies squarely with the government.
