I am looking to buy a 220 volt plasma cutter. This is something I will not use that often. I wont be cutting anything over 1/4 inch. I know you get what you pay for, but I don't want to spend thousands on something that won't be used much. I was looking on e bay and the have several to choose from, just don't know how to choose the best for the money. Any help or advice would be great.

Thanks

I will be interested to see the replies.

Unbeknownst to me, our work had a huge Hypertherm locked up in a shipping container for years. It was actually bought by the government for a plasma project, and then put in storage for years. Last year, they had to reconcile a whole bunch of gov't equipment, and some other entity got the thing for cheap. I believe it was a Hypertherm 1000 model, able to go through 1/2" almost as fast as you could move your hand. My boss had used it and said that it was "too fast" to be used handheld...

Watch Craigslist daily for a used Hypertherm. Watch for: Powermax30 (I have seen them in the $600 range), Powermax600 ($600 to $1200) Powermax1000 ($800 to $1400) Powermax380 ($400 to $800). Good industrial machines....support from the factory that builds them in New Hampshire. Cheaper to operate than the low cost imports (dramatically longer consumable life). Jim Colt

Hey Jim, what's the difference between the XP and non XP powermax 30?

The Powermax30 was replaced in our product line by the newer Powermax30XP. 50% more cutting power (speed and thickness) on essentially the same amount of input power. Just newer technology that is more efficient. The 30XP is the only product in our line with the XP name.....it is kust a name...though it probably came from "Xtra Power"!

I have a powermax 380 and I am looking to upgrade to a 45. Never thought I would be cutting 1/2" stuff. No problem with this unit, just don't need two of them. Let me know if you're interested,Thanks
