Traction 3215 (Gear) won't move forward, reverse OK

Mindys60,
Not sure if you around on this forum, but I have the same issue with forward/reverse on a 3510. Do you know if the transmission had to be pulled to repair this, or was this accessible via the side plate where the linkage goes in?

You can shift on the fly without tearing anything up on either 15 or 16 series... you just need to do it right.

If your shifting from say 1st to second you need to be using the foot throttle.. just like a truck.. you want to let the engine idle down and clutch then shift easy then ease into it... momentum is big as well you don't want to shift from 1st to second with a load and have to let the engine speed catch up to the gear... from what iv seen shifting up from say 3rd to second is were these syncros take the most pressure. Same thing as my massey 1540.. shifting ahead in gears 1-2-3-4 it has no problem what so ever.. shifting back in gears 4-3-2-1 you can get grind and almost needs to be stopped to do so.. with these Mitsubishi tractors they actually take the shift much better as far as going into gear but your still going to have a lot of strain especially with a load.. taking things easy when shifting, letting the gear find itself, fully clutching before moving the shifter and not engaging the clutch until fully in the other gear is key.... same thing goes with the shuttle.. any time im working back and forth quickly im using the foot throttle... clutch in, and let off the throttle fully before shifting from forward to reverse and engaging the clutch before throttling back up... and even though they are syncro in any tractor you really need to be at a slow roll before letting into the opposite motion... that would cause more stress than any shifting of a range gear would imo..... its very possible to even speed shift an old 8x2 gear tractor if you feel the gears out and let them shift theirself instead of just ramming it into the next gear fast and sloppy... in the 3016 especially youll learn to over exaggerate your shifting into a cross gear like 2-3 and 3-2... meaning make sure you bring the shifter from 2nd up then over fully and then up into 3rd... instead of dragging the shifter to the right and up into 3rd.. this can let the shifter pin slip out of the fork before putting into neutral and causing a stuck gear.. takes nothing more than a punch and hammer to line back up but can save the trouble by correctly shifting

Jeffo-

The 3215 model had to be separated to service the worn gear. On your model, I wouldn't know. If your Dealer or parts supplier is worth their weight, they should be able to answer your question or provide some blow-up diagrams or perhaps if you dig, one may be on the 'net. Perhaps you've done that. I still have the worn parts for photography and posting...just haven't made the time to do it yet.
Good luck with the chase and keep us posted!
