"Can borrow your tractor?"

Drinking coffee and reading some of your replies this morning I laughed. Wife asked what I was laughing at. I said tractor forum ..."can I borrow your tractor?" She got a wide eyed lik on her face and said, emphatically " **** to the NO!" It's nice to be on the same page.

Off subject...

My brothers new two axle dump trailer was smacked by his wife last Sunday... he had it ready to go Monday morning for a dump run and she was backing out her car with the wheel cranked hard right...

The left front tire hit the fender and plate holder dead on and did a number... her Honda Odyssey was unscathed.

Of course it was my brother's fault for parking it not in the usual place AND for buying a Black Trailer...

I just had to tell a friend "no" the other day. I felt bad saying it, but offered to do the work. He totally understood. He's an equipment operator for a living, and I'm sure things would be fine, but if the clutch goes out with him in the seat... well it just makes thing awkward. Nobody wants that! He was a good sport. I would lend it to my brother or father inlaw though.

I would sooner place my "jewels" in a lemon squeezer than ask to borrow something off of someone. I just don't and won't do it. And that includes family.

I've had to borrow my father inlaws flatbed trailer a number of times. I truly hate having to ask, it bothers the crap out of me. He's always happy to loan it out. When I talk about buying one in the future, he always tells me not to, "because I already have one". I know he loves helping, but when I have the opportunity, I'm absolutely buying one.

I mentioned before that I have 1 friend who I would loan my chainsaws... years ago....maybe 12 years ago, I borrowed his pickup truck to get a load of gravel...and a load of firewood. I dented the top of the truck bed sidewall. I felt low as Haities when I returned it. Over the years I have helped him put a liner in a chimney, I've loaned my log splitter to his dad. We have helped each other cut wood, and do some difficult chores. About 6 years ago he let me use his beach house for a long weekend with my kids. The moment we got there, my youngest kid sprinted thru the screen door on the deck and tore the door off the track. I spent several hours repairing the screen door. After he cut his hand trying to field dress a deer ....which was still alive and kicked him, I dispatched it, cleaned it and I dragged the deer about 3/4 mile to the truck....I swear it felt like it was 2 miles up hill. He wouldn't ask to borrow my tractor and I have no way of getting it off my land...but if he needed one for a job, I'd figure out how to get one to his place.
Now, I have a brother. I love him. But I wouldn't let him operate my tractor or my any equipment. He is rough on equipment and just doesn't understand the need to use finesse.

The answer is Negatory good buddy. I don't lend out my wife, my dog, or my tractor. Pickup yes. hand tools yes.
No one has ever asked to borrow my tractor without me in the seat. They know I take care of my gear, better than they do, and they respect me for it.

Sounds like this guy:

OMG, that song is funny. He must know my friends. I help them a lot with mechanical and basic home repair stuff because I can't bear to watch. There have been a few times I've come in half way through a project, and I helped on the condition that that they could never tell anyone that I helped them, because I had to cobble like crazy to salvage the damage that had already been done.

His small engines never run right because he leaves his gas cans outside with no covers on the spouts. I bought him new spouts with caps, and he was astounded that this could be a problem. Seriously, he had gas cans all over that looked like baby birds with their open beaks up waiting to be fed!
