This is what I would do in this set of circumstances. Take the asking price in cash, (more than fair by the way) but ask him if there is anyway that he would take less $$$ and what that lesser amount would be if he is willing to consider it. I would not low ball him, but leave the lesser amount for him to decide on. That way you know that he is ok with the purchase price. He very well may already be thinking that he will only get $1000 for it.

I agree with Brian on getting the best deal. With the better pictures the side plates look better than I thought. That also means it has less wear than I was suspecting. I would buy it before someone else does.

I gave $1000 for an 84" model, manual retractable that had been partially converted to hydraulic. I finished the conversion and have used the snot out of it.

You'll not regret this purchase. Don't lose the purchase over a couple hundred bucks. Buy it. If you don't like it, sell it. No risk purchase in my opinion.

I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. What a deal at 1200.00. I bought the same model but butchered for 500.00 and still trying to make heads and tails out of it. Yes that back gate locks on.

Wow. That was a great deal. I recently dropped $3,100 on a heavy blade with hydraulic rippers. Would have loved to find a deal like that. Amazing how much better it is than the light ones I had in the past. Let us know how it works out.

I'm doubting that question was asked of the seller. I wouldn't have. I'd have had a nice clean stack of new $100 bills and shook the guy's hand and thanked him for the sale.

When I bought mine for a $1000 I didn't realize what I was buying. The guy I bought it from has a welding shop and I buy steel from him. I told him later I felt a bit guilty about it all. He just laughed and said I priced it, you bought it, nothing to feel guilty about.

I can't imagine what I'd hafta do to mine to make it unuseable and in need of replacement. So I consider it a lifetime purchase. I'm sure my Sons will feel the same way about it when they are my age and still using it.

Uuuhhhh, trying to answer this properly without writing a book...

With hydraulic they must be fully latched in the lowered position to use or damage may occur. The depth of the scarifiers are then adjusted by manually moving them just like is done on the manual versioin.

With manual they can be set at varied heights/depths. This is done by removing a pin latching device, adjusting the scarifier tooth to the desired depth and replacing the latch. This must be done on each scarifier.

The advantage of hydraulic is once the depth is determined they can be used or not used simply by moving a hydraulic lever. One more advantage, which I use, I have the individual scarifier teeth set and the lowest/deepest setting. If I want to scratch shallower I simply lower the beam, then lift the BB until I am getting the desired depth. I haven't moved the individual teeth for a couple years.

Of course all of this goes out the window if you have a hydraulic toplink on the tractor. You can pitch the BB back or forward to lower the teeth in relevance to the cutting blade on the BB.

raising and lowering rippers individually is something you don't want to do very often. Mine are staggered every other high / low position I can't rip through the clay surface of my road to tear up the chuck holes if they are all at the same position. 1400 lb box scrapper just bounces.
