How far down do your posts go?? 18" maybe??
Grab a shovel and dig a hole that deep. If you don't hit frost then everything is fine, if you do then you'll know.

Very mild here in ohio too. I doubt it ever froze more than 6-10" deep. Last winter there was 8"+ ice thickness on my pond for several weeks. Could enjoy getting out on it.

This year, it was never froze 100% for more than about 5 days, and then only to maybe 2" thick. Been an odd winter with up and down temps, lots of 60 degree days in Feb, and VERY little snow

Yep. Us too. My large farmer buddy is expecting a wet planting season and then drier/warmer than normal the rest of the Summer/Fall.

Footings go down 48" to get below frost.

I have seen years in north central IL that 48" is not enough. Just depends on how much water is in the soil and how cold it gets.

The snow is 3-4' deep where I am from, so you don't have to go as deep.

When we had that cold winter 2 years ago, contractor friend of mine said he was hitting frost putting a deck in, way down, in June.

We worked all winter placing fiber from Cologne MN into the Metro near the new stadium. Never seen frost more than 12 inches deep. Roads froze down to 30 inches in places. Odd year!!! We only shut down a few days due to Water freezing for drill rigs. After this weekend you should be ready to go. forecast is warm for a stretch.

In S WI they have announced the light load law is in affect on the roads (frost is coming out). The interstate HWY crews are starting to tear out bridges and doing highway work. They said not much frost is left.

They just put on road restrictions here today in my town (Just outside Minneapolis/St Paul). Earliest I have ever seen that... It will be interesting to see how long they go. they are typically off by mid May, but perhaps that will be a lot earlier this year?

Your right snow cover helps a lot. Last year here we had lots of snow, This year I have only plowed once.
I spend a lot of time in Silvercliff Wisconsin up there. 3 to 5 times a year. Most of the soil seems to be sand. But when the frost comes out you don't want to be there. There has been times we went in March and it was a mistake.

Soil types are all different and have different results.
