Oil & Fuel To use additives or not?

You may want to check to see if you are using "Bio" diesel;it doesn't have a shelf life like "regular",you may need a biocide to keep down algae growth.

Likely not. I'll just get whatever comes from the pump with the green handle at the gas station and shop around for cheaper fuel prices. Probably the same place I get gas for now anyway.

By bio diesel I suppose you're talking about the stuff made from old deep fry oil and smells like a burger joint is around the corner. Don't wanna get my dog all worked up for nothing.

For my 4X4, if it gets wet, I use the blue, marine grade stuff, if not then I typically use the red stuff that is made for higher stress loads. Sometimes like wheel spindles and wheel bearings I use a mix of both although I keep a can of the regular stuff around for general purpose this and that too. For something like a boat trailer that gets in the water all the time, you'd want the blue stuff in your bearings for sure and lots of it. Had a friend of mine weld his bearings in his boat trailer to the spindle just down the road from the house last summer. It was a real bugger getting him underway again. Now he knows what the blue stuff is for but it was an expensive lesson.

^ ditto, but I use Howes.

I used Howes for years. Then it gelled and plugged a filter one morning in my pickup in about -45c weather. If you leave that bottle out in 35-40 below it will get all milky and thick. I stopped using it about 8 or so years ago. It is fine except in really cold weather.

Note that I was using it for a winter conditioner in winter fuel. Not for a antigel additive. Winter formulated fuel will not gel, but is very dry and needs something to increase lubrication properties.

I use Power Service white bottle year round. Cleans injectors, cetane boost, removes water. lubes fuel pump, anti-gel and makes starting easier.

This is better than Howes

the op is in Ca. I've used it at -9f with no issues. I don't think many of us here abouts worry about -49f cold starts.

If I did, I'd be moving. LOL
I'd have moved to AZ but couldn't budge the ball and chain to move out of the state. It sure would have saved me a ton in taxes to have moved back to the USA. A tax for this and a tax for that, a fee for this and a fee for that. They always have their mitts in your pocket here.

Went to find the additives locally yesterday. They didn't have the Howes but I did find the PowerService so I got a bottle of that.
