Well, here we again...
...another 8n basket case just pulled up in our small shop. We have done 2 8n's, 1 ferguson and a 1963 JD 1010RU...like a glutton for punishment...last week we purchased another 8n...1949 basket case:laughing:
The good...engine is solid, good compression no smoke and purrs like a kitten. Hydraulics work as new and no leaks.....ya...really no leaks!
The bad...needs 2 new rear outer rims and rear tires and one or both rear axles seals no surprises there and and a lot of TLC.
We did some partial tear down and ordered some parts..so, while I am waiting on parts and my partner to finish the preassure washing and sand blasting, I decided to re-vamp ye old original tach/proofmeter which was working when we bought it and read 1144 original horus...not bad bad for an old feller.
Here's a few pics..doing the best I can to keep this original. Not a museum job, but should fit the bill when it is all said and done.
All I was able to work on today was the proofmeter...tomorrow is another day.
The bezel seems to be a brass/bronze piece, not shure, but i cleaned it the best I could then ran it thru 20 minutes in the sonic cleaner and then 5 minutes in the tumbler and it seems to be turning out pretty good so far. I plan to tumble it some more and when done decide wether to leave it bright brass color or paint it..what say you?
It will be convertedt o 12 volts and hope to be done in 6 moths.
A Sherman combination tranny is on the way.
Will keep ya'll posted..
