Dealership keeps calling, wont come down on price

Another piece of advice. Don't put up a trade in at first. Tell them no. That is used to scrape down the price of the new to tell you want then make it back on the allowance you get on the old one.
Work the deal. Then tell em you and your wife thought it over and don't want both payments and you want to trade it in.
Also if at all possible tell em you want to think it over over night. Then when they call the next morning(they will) then nibble them for another little bit.

Looking for a car last year, we walked into a big dealership and the guy holding the door open was the one we dealt with. Nice guy but hard to understand. How does one go into a dealership and look at all the sales people and pick out one they want. And if you pick a dud how can a person switch to a different sales person. I should be able to say, "I want someone else," but I find that difficult. I guess I have to grow a pair.

I'd ask for the GM or finance person if they kept calling me & tell them where you were at on the deal, either cough up or shut up.
There is such a thing as harassment.

Subscribed to see how it turns out.

I think I'd just tell them I am no longer I interested. I wouldn't say something like " don't call til you are willing to accept my price"...
Ditto... subscribed! If you want to have them stop, telling them that you bought a new Ford from another dealer for thousands less, should work...

At this point, if you still want the truck, I would start lowering my target price $50 for every phone call they make.

Car salesmen have an up-system on who gets the walk-in customers to keep things fair. You're not likely to get a different salesmen from the one you were met by, they consider it stealing a customer/commission. Unless you ask for someone specific when you walk in, they're going to want to play by their rules.

Beware of closing the deal. The real sales pitch comes when you get in the finance office. There you are offered all sorts of maintanance agreements and other add-ons. Actually, i worked at a dealership for a week. I sold three cars and felt bad about two of them. One lady came in with her daughter because she got a letter from the dealership congratulating her fo paying off her car. The letter also promised her a very good deal to trade it in. I showed her all the various models and ultimately she bought the exact same car she had except it had a better radio that her teenage daughter wanted. I tried to show them other options to no avail. Another guy came in late in the evening and wanted to buy a new truck. He wanted something new as long as the payments stayed the same. I quit after the first week because I disn't want to be a part of those type sales.

The last two vehicles I bought we went to various delaers and brands to decide exactly what we wanted. I told every salesman we were not buying today but were considering their whatever. I still got the "buy now" and save pitch. After we decided exactly the model we wanted and the options, I sent an e-mail to as many dealers I could find explaining what we were going to buy and asked for a " drive out" price. There was quite a range of prices received. In both cases, they had to try and sell contracts and add- ons as well as promising fantastic deals if I financed it with them. In My E-mail I stated I was buying the car outright. It took forever to convince them I had certified check in hand. Did I get good deals? Who knows, but I am happy with the cars.

Well that's an easy one.. tell them you'll take it every day... "Gitt'r ready for me" and just not show up... Every time they call! :D

I like this one. They'll tie someone up getting all of the paperwork ready and then you never show. Marvelous! Fair is fair. They're wasting a little of your time every day.

boy oh boy can i tell you some tricks. i worked at a chrysler dealer years ago. the talking to general manager trick is just one of the more experienced salesman. if they end up selling you a car, the two salesman split the commission. you never talk to the general manager unless its under extreme extenuating circumstances, usually AFTER car is sold.

if you would really like to get a close dealer to come down to your price, take one of your personal checks and fill it out with the further away dealers name and the amount that you want and tell the close dealer you are going to give then one more chance to beat the given price cause your on the way to the other dealer. you can always void out your own check.

just remember that they are salesmen and the CAN really stretch the truth, but so can you. play the dealers game.

When I bought my truck, I had the best price I could find at a dealer an hour away. I went back to my local dealers, there are 4 half a mile away from me, and twice as many that are closer then the one with the best price. None of them would budge, so I drove to the dealer an hour away.

First they tried making friends with me. Asking about work, where I lived, what I liked to do. Buddy buddy stuff that made me uncomfortable, so I didn't give them anything. Just stuck to talking about the truck. Then they hit me with funny math to convince me they could give me a deal and get the payment down to where I wanted it. I refused to talk payments, or interest rates, just stuck to the already agreed to amount for the truck. The guy trying to make friends even went so far as to ask me to go for their payment plan as a personal favor to him. Weird!!!!! Then once I was in the office with the guy to do the paperwork, he tried to add on a few grand for upgrades that he claimed they added to the truck and that they where above the agreed to price. I said no, thank you, but I'm paying the price agreed to or I'm driving to a dealership that was farther away from where I live, but who said they would also sell me the truck for the agreed to price. I guess he knew it was true, because that ended that line of BS. He then tried to do the finance game of offering me a monthly payment instead of the agreed to price. It's amazing how much time they waste playing these games, but I realize that it works for them often enough to do it. In the end, I got my price and financed it for 2 % interest. It took close to 4 hours of playing games with them to get it done, they just drag it on and on forever.

Just keep one thing in mind, the dealership has seen all the tricks mentioned here, many times over. Your really just wasting peoples time trying them. Just do your homework and offer them your price and get up and leave if they won't take it.

To the OP, if the salesman doesn't have anything to do at the moment, he figures to keep calling and maybe you will cave in.
