I have followed Tuff-bilt tractors, once in Alabama, now in Nebraska, for some time. The KISS PRINCIPLE (Keep it simple, stupid.) appeals to me in everything.

Interesting that a modernized Allis Chalmers tractor design, produced from 1948 - 1955 in Gadsden, Alabama, is NEW again.

To my knowledge, the only large rear wheel gas tractor in production today, with an electric powered version planned for later in 2016.

I hope someone will post an in depth consumer review, including experience with parts availability and implement function. I would like the option of a Honda engine, in addition to the standard Kohler.

I guess I have a hard time thinking of electronics and hydraulic drive, as "simple".

My old "G" is MUCH more "simple" than that!

The implements in the Allis Chalmers promotional video are operating smoother than the implements in the sundry Tuff-Bilt videos.

Perhaps this results because of greater weight of the water-cooled four cylinder engine Model G, perhaps because Allis Chalmers assigned many experienced tractor engineers to the design and testing the design, perhaps because of Allis Chalmers greater financial resources in producing the 1948 marketing film.

Tractordata.com shows operating weight of 1,400 pounds, ballasted weight 1,750 pounds.

Do you still have an original Continental engine in your Model G?

Continental built water-cooled engines for the early Ferguson tractors too.

I've talked to a couple of folks who had worked at a veggie farm that had one. To me, while I understand it's a little more complicated than gears, the hydrostatic transmission would be a great feature on a cultivating tractor. Their price sure is reasonable at under $10k for a new tractor, compared to an Allis G, which around here go for at least $5k for something decent. I wonder how much a set of cultivators add to the price of the Tuff-Bilt.

Also, it's interesting that the ROPS seems to be optional. I didn't know you could get away with selling a new tractor without a ROPS. Maybe no one has noticed yet.

Yes my G has the original engine in it and a G can be bought here WITH a full set of cultivators for less that 5K. AND that will be one like mine, with hydraulics and creep first gear...

You don't need a complicated hystat tranny with the creep first gear, and you have 3 more gears if you want to go faster.

I'll keep the G, thankyouverymuch!

Not trying to argue with you Rob, but there's a total of 1 G on my local Craigslist (Minneapolis) with cultivators. It's 5000 for the tractor and they want extra for the cultivator. No creeper gear, and no mention of hydraulics. There's also one with a plow for 4000. Just different markets, I guess.

There's a place not far from here, that probably has 8, or more than likely, 10 of them for sale right now... I'm betting any one could easily be bought for less than 5K...

You're betting they could, huh? That's a really great data point.;)

Sorry, I don't mean to get personal. Rob, my point was that for some buyers, the price of the Tuff-Bilt may be appealing. Many veggie farmers aren't mechanically inclined, so a new piece of equipment may be a good choice. If you want to continue splitting hairs about the cost of a G, that's fine, but it's not addressing my point.

OK, the point is, the "G" is much cheaper to buy, a much simpler proven machine and you don't have to listen to a motor roaring away, along with the dreaded, hydro whine. I can point you to plenty of them being available, so what's not to like?

I'm wondering, how many hours have you put on a "G" ?, cultivating?

Make mine a "G" pleaseeee!
