Got hit by electric fence.

Remembering this thread and the intensity between electric fencers we have had, today when I was at my dealer's I checked the output of their lineup. Fencers varied from 0.3 joule to 26 joule. Joule is a measure of power. So for people who can hold on to a wire and think this is easy, remember that the next one you grab could have up to 90 times the jolt with each shock.

Wow, you don't fool around -- most people touch it with an arm or leg, but you went straight for the head! :D
Yeah, and he got the full effect from head to toe! I am glad the OP is ok and suffered no injury from it.

My FIL is a little stubborn. He has two strands of electric to attempt to contain his herd of donkeys, that is often more down than not . The jacks like to kick one or both down. And he buys the cheapest charger he can find; I think he has one that he got at a yard sale.

So one day he and his son are out in the pasture by the fence to repair yet another broken wire, and after the repair, says to his son, "This charger ain't workin".
Son: "What makes you say that?"
Pa: "It ain't 'clickin'".
Son: "Well, the little light is flashing, doesn't that mean it's working?"
Pa: "Nah, you can't believe that thing."
Son: "Well maybe the battery is just weak."
Pa: "Nah, it ain't workin; see, watch this." (grabs hot wire with bare hand with no visible affect)
Son: "Well, I guess you may be right, but it probably wouldn't give you much of a jolt since you're not grounded."
Pa: "No, it just ain't workin."
Son: "Well, I bet it would be working a lot more if you were barefoot!"
Pa: "NO! I'm telling you it AIN'T workin!!"
Son: "Well, if you are SO SURE, then why don't you just take off your shoes and try it?"
Pa: (while taking off shoes) "OK, I'll PROVE it to you (proceeds to get knocked on his ***).

Happened maybe 10 years ago and we all still kid him about it. I bought him a fence tester at TSC as a gag gift last Christmas.

I grew up around an electric fence and got hit many times but it was never a big deal. My father could not feel electric very well and I have seen him put one hand on the ground and the other on the fence, shake his head and go and get his piece of rebar. He would stick the end on the ground and watch for a spark and say well it is working. The only damage I ever saw was when a flying squirrel bit the wire and died. I am honestly wondering if this is a fiction thread or am I missing something. Ed

You are welcome to touch my fence! All fences are not equal when it comes to quality of connections and a proper grounding setup. Mine claim 20 mile compatibility and when it gets you, you will become a believer.

I've got two Stafix 60 mile, 6 joule chargers. One is on solar and a deep cycle battery set up and the other can be. I want the 90 mile, 9 joule chargers.

They make an ungodly monster that runs off 220v but that is way more than I need.

I have a deer feeder that has a 9v battery powered anti racoon coil on it that will make you wish you stayed home that day. I'm sure electric fencing on main power will do it's job.

Our old charger would give you unpleasant hit. Our new charger, I don't know the pulse energy, will send you to ground. If given time it will ignite weeds and/or fry poly line. We used to have poly line for years (with frequent problems) but I replaced it with solid wire with new corner insulators last fall. There are lot of deer footprints outside of the fence but so far none inside.
Now we have just the rabbits chewing our trees in the winter but rarely kills them. Few strategically placed owl perches help to keep the rabbit population in check.

When i was a kid in high school i was hunting rabbits and heard my friends shooting clay birds so i headed over to join the fun. didnt know they had just bought some calves and put up a new e-fence. the ground was saturated and i was wearing rubber boots but i wasnt looking for a fence and didnt feel it till it was stretched across my thighs. Ed came running at me yelling "look out" and about then it hit me. my legs just started jumping around on their own and luckily i fell backwards away from the fence. found out later he had wired the fence directly into the barn circuit - no charger box. And this guy was an electrician! my legs ached for two days after and i was lucky that was all.

We have mini horses and I was pasturing them near the house. So I set up a temporary plastic poles and ribbon about 15" high and another about 30". We had a black cat that used to walk around with her tail straight up. She brushed up against the ribbon and the MEOW I never seen her run so fast.:D But later that night I had to go to the barn and didn't want to set over ,so I crawled under I got zapped on the small of the back and ended up on my belly as the grass was soaked with dew.
