Pickups the new Luxury Car?

In decades around the car business we never had a single brake line replaced... not a one... on rare occasions the flex hose... but only on very old cars.

Try driving your cars around the rust belt for a few years. It's not at all uncommon to have to replace brake lines on vehicles only 10 or 15 years old. Not uncommon and NOT cheap.

It is a geographical thing, still better then CA.

Having been blessed with California cars it is hard to comprehend rust buckets or early demise... the wrecking yards are filled with perfect body cars that wouldn't pass smog so off they went.

I did buy one car from New York... a 1950 Crosley and it does show... that has been my only East Coaster.

Sad because California was the center of car culture for decades... now old cars are akin to public enemy number one... after wood burning.

My 1985 Chevrolet truck has spent it's entire existence outdoors... the underside doesn't have a speck for rust... honest.

I do wonder if gas doubles if a flood of nice slightly used luxury trucks will hit the market?

A few week ago I actually paid $1.99 for regular and Saturday it was $2.39 and last night on the way home I saw a $2.49 price.

I was nice filling up the 1985 for $60 instead of $140

Gas has gone up before, people still keeping buying trucks.

If you do the math, it really isnt a big deal. Especially if you can afford an expensive vehicle.

Most people don't do the math though.

I learned to drive on a 1961 Chevy with the 235 inline 6 and manual tranny, along with Armstrong steering. It sucked. I make a lot more money now, and can afford some of the nicer things. Therefore I have a loaded truck, and nice finishes all over my house. When ordering my truck and designing my house, it was literally pennies a day to get the nicer life over the basic stuff. My reward for busting my hump is a little better standard of living.

Has anyone else noticed trucks (and cars) getting shorter on headroom?

I am looking at option for upgrading my '97 Ranger (my current daily driver). Went to Toyota dealer today and put my head on ceiling of Tacoma. If it was couple inches taller I could straighten my neck and have clear view ahead. Checking spec's appears the Nissan Frontier and Chevy Colorado are about the same headroom. Now I have go check out the F150 class trucks.
Funny you mention that as a guy at work has a Tacoma and was talking about getting a dashcam so he could see traffic lights. He's 6'3.

I still remember my FIRST pickup truck. In the Fall of 1969, after the dealers had gotten new 1970 models in stock, I bought a new 1969 Chevy, standard cab, short, narrow bed, manual transmission, inline 6 cylinder, for $1,956 plus TT&L. It did have a heater, spare tire, and rear bumper, but no radio, not even a cigar lighter. It's a long ways from there to the 2015 F150 crew cab we now have.:D

Thats the way to buy a vehicle. I bet you wish you still had that! There is a 66 on CL right now I would love to have.

Replacing brake lines is another benefit of living in the snow belt. I have done it on several vehicles

Yup. The 2016 F150 Supercrews are very, very nice. The dealer called me up, trying to get me to bring in my leased 2014 early, but is being a real pain about the new lease payments. My 2014 lease payment was just over $400 per month, with zero down, but now he said he wants $636 per month with $3500 down - for the same truck, with the same options!

Leases are a mistake.
