Post your unsafe finds.

Bruce

At least it looks as if the field had been tilled /worked recently,
It would have really bothered me to see that maneuver near a recently removed tree, Any kind of root grabbing the auger near the ground surface can really throw things into chaos real quick... Still playing with fire imo

I thought he was planting tulip bulbs.
My Grandfather used an auger on an electric drill to plant tulip bulbs. Trouble was that the auger was two feet long. Took some of the bulbs two or three years to come up.

Other than the unshielded PTO what is unsafe about it? Kicking near the auger is not an issue as the as the flutes are spiralling up always - it will not catch you and drag you down. Gloves? the proper gloves are safer than bare hands. Granted shear pins are known to catch a lot of things especially when somebody uses one that sticks out a bunch because they did not have the proper length.

I, like Wagtail, was just waiting for the "wrap up" and screaming. At work we use very large portable magnetic based drills - a fellow got his gloved hand wrapped up in the bit/chuck, which was bad enough. The guy that came to help didn't simply unwrap his gloved hand - he threw the drill into reverse and turned it on - thereby wrapping the poor fellows hand the other way also.

Glad you did not see a video of what we did when I was growing up. We would ride the digger so it would have more weight and dig better. No PTO shield and it would often be jumping around hitting rocks. But this will make you feel better, we never wore gloves they were for people with soft hands from not working. Ed

Not a safety issue, but merely an observation: I noticed that the tractor is a 2WD unit, yet the front tires had fenders - normally only found on 4WD units. The owner must drive the tractor fast or through water/mud that he doesn't want wheel dust or splash from them?

Ed - I know what you mean about the "gloved hand". My neighbor is a farmer/rancher and shaking hands with him is like gripping the bark on a pine tree.
