Saturday, my helper came over to help me cut a load of firewood, so we loaded up the gear and headed to my woods...

We cut most of the load with a Husky 55, but when we got to the "Big Boys", I cranked up the Jonsered 2260,

standard.jpg

We were blocking up, "mostly" maple, and the 2260 powered right through it,

standard.jpg

and soon we had our "mucho grande" load,

standard.jpg

In fact, we had so much cut, we had to load the last of it on the tractor,

standard.jpg

Once home, I parked the "splitter" behind the wagon, and started rolling those big blocks onto the splitters beam, pushing them through the 4-way,

standard.jpg

and soon we had a pretty good pile of splits,

It got late on us, so I'll finish splitting the rest of the load another day!

Hope you enjoyed the picts...

That is a lot of nice wood!

My stove doesn't seem to mind what length the wood is. I get a lot of wood from tree guys and they don't give a rip what length they cut it. It's a PITA to stack, but burns fine.

The guys selling firewood have a good point as far as maintaining length. Like you my stove doesn't care and all sizes and shapes look the same when they come out of the stove.

Off topic question about your post. What program are you using to add text to your photos.

I'm using a Mac. The program is "Preview" which Apple includes with their computers. It's sort of their answer to Adobe Reader, but it will open more file types than Reader. Most file types all it will do is open them so yo can look at them, but it does include some very basic tools like adding text, circles boxes, lines and arrows.

Just about any graphics or "paint" program will do the same (and a lot more). Some can be downloaded for free.

I have these good for nothing Basswood's and have been getting rid of them "releasing" better species for growth. A "corduroy" road through some wet areas is about the only thing I do with them. I haul them in on the log trailer.
There is a "bottom" in that wet area, and the tractor will go through it but now you can walk it without rubber boots. Today I finished the last 12' or so after starting it last year.

Rusty this wood is prized as "sculpting wood" especially for schools. If you look up "Dick Blick" (an art supply house") you'd be shocked at what a 12"x4" block of the stuff is going for.

We took a tour of a merry go round museum in Sandusky, OH a few years ago. They restore a lot of carousel horses there. And they use basswood in a lot of the restorations. They said it carves really well. I also know a few people that carve and they also like basswood. So, there may be some money in a good piece of basswood. :confused3:

For Win.*, I think IRFanView is one of, if not, the best of the free picture/graphics utility programs, not only will it open virtually any picture or video file, allow editing, and manipulation, but it's not hamstrung in the free version, and it doesn't take a ton of memory either.

Was that place associated with Cedar Point, the home base of the roller coaster enthusiasts club?
