GFCI lifespan only 10 years?

Only device and outlet by law that can be shared with the fridge receptacle is a recessed receptacle for an electric clock.

Not sure about the law where you live (California?), I can only comment on what is allowed here. My understanding of the NEC is that the fridge can be on one of the required 20A kitchen circuits, but does not need to be GFI protected. Hence the first drop in the circuit - pre GFI. If choosing 15A, it must be dedicated. I'm not a professional and do not spend my free time immersed in the electrical code book, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Code here says 2 outlets on same breaker OK but across the kitchen.
I kinda suspect I somewhat overkilled.
I split each outlet so as to make them 2 circuits and installed 6 split outlets in my kitchen.
Otherwise said 12ea 20 amp circuits (12 guage wire, 20 a CB's) just for the kitchen!*
Wife can plug as many appliances as we can afford and never blow a breaker.
Add to that that 3 circuits also go thru the generator panel for when we have failures.

* Today with waffle makers, toaster ovens, microwaves, ice makers, breadmakers and whatall you just never know what is next.

The electrician (that signed off my installation) was impressed to say the least.
But then my panel was all labeled and the internal wires were neatly tie wrapped and not a crisscrossed mess. (background is aircraft
wiring)

LOL, knew of a home in that 'hi class area' ($1.5 m) that still used a 60 amp panel with only 2 outlets in the kitchen area, extensions all over the place. Owner was 'very conservative' LOL.

Perhaps I should add that I am (was) a certified aircraft electronics tech so I sort of understand electricity.

Yup! Never put a GFCI downstream from a GFCI. But from there a 20a GFCI should be able to handle several "downstream" outlets (4 or 6 or something...I forget). Our electrician over-did it because of an experience with an inspector from a different county...my inspector (who I learned to like and trust) said we "over-killed" but no harm in that as long as we had the breaker space and the wires were already connected. Funny though in that he insisted on GFCI on our island far away from any water...

Our island had to be gfci too :)

Code may have changed since I built, my fridge is on dedicated 20a, non gfi. Could not be a duplex outlet.
Two gfi countertop circuits. I have an open country kitchen, dining room, so they considered it all kitchen, so dining area is on a 3rd gfi circuit. I could not feed outlets across the wall from the same circuit. Also could not feed the outside gfi outlet from the Kitchen gfi circuit.
My gfi still work after 19 yrs.

How come no 220 gfi? my dryer plug and my oven plug are within 4-6' of water. ;)

I guess there isn't much chance of you dropping one into the sink?

60 amp panels are illegal here. Must have at least 100 amp.

I have a 220 volt GFCI breaker for my hot tub. That might not be the correct name for it, but it's basically the same thing for a lot more money. I also have a 110 volt 20 amp GFCI breaker for the outlets around my hot tub.

New service in my city is also 100amp...

Plenty of older grandfathered services and even knob and tube.

I have owned single family homes with 30 amp 120 main... 30 amp 220 main, 60 amp 220, 100 amp 220, 125 amp 220 and 400 amp 220.

The most unusual is a Three Unit building with the entire building on one 30 amp 120 main... basically one modest refrigerator for each unit and lights...
